I have a few different S&W 3rd gens 4566, 4566tsw, 5906, 5946, 4046 and am torn between paying the extra for TSW version guns, and Non tsw version guns price difference is about 50-$100 depedning on where i am looking at used guns at..

I feel the non TSW version look better, have better holster selection,(i have a bunhc of holsters that fit the NOn tsw guns)..I dont use the rails for the lights either
But wonder,Am i missing out, but not paying a few bucks more for a superior built gun (TSW)? IS the TSW gun so much more better? Whats was the price differecen when brand new for a Non TSW gun vs. TSw gun usually?

BTW, all I buy is Steel version no alloy frames..

For me, it all boils down to what looks better.

Since all of my guns shoot better than I do, so any 'performance' and 'accuracy' questions are about my abilities, not the gun's...

Buy what you like a price you can afford :D

I like the lines and "look" of the non-TSW gun. I don't think you loose much by going to that version, mostly because, IMHO, most folks aren't properly trained on flashlight applications (fighting with a hand held or weapon mounted light), so for most, I'd say the non-TSW guns are the way to go.

My opinion is not worth much other than to myself but...

If I want to attach something to a rail, it will be on an already ugly gun like a Glock.

I am not going to pay extra for something I will not use and I do not want the lines of an added rail that I will not use on a gun that should have smooth lines. A big reason we buy guns is for the appearance. If it is something that appeals to us, we will buy it. A rail I will never use is neither apealing to me or anyone else. I can use adjustable sights more.

I don't know what you consider as looking better but, if there was anyway to get the rail off of my 5903 without leaving the gun marred on the bottom of the frame I would try to get it taken off.I just prefer non-railed.

Hi.My preference is the look of non railed semi-auto guns. The rail disturbs the smooth lines of the gun,and if you aren't going to use a fitted tactical light why have a gun so equipped.Just MHO....God Bless....Mike

Standard for me. The TSW versions have the ugly black writing all over the gun, black trigger and hammer, and that rail should be part of the frame, not riveted on like Frankenstein's monster. The older ones are all metal, and just look more sleek. And putting the word "Tactical" on a concealed carry gun like a 3913 is just a marketing ploy to get the mall ninja's to think they're cool. What is so tactical about a 3913?

Reason mine is TSW is simply because that is the way it came and I bought it used. It is a Gwinnet Co. trade in. Only thing I would change about it is the rail but, as another poster has already mentioned they are riveted on and it would ruin the appearance to try to take it off. However the black writing makes it look sharp IMHO. Then that is just my opinion and, as my dear old pappy said they (opinions) are like rear ends and mostly all stink.

One thing that you guys are forgetting, or perhaps do not know. The TSW is made differently then thier counter parts. By that I mean, the slide and receiver are machined as a pair and kept together though out the production of the gun. I can only assume that the others are machined in batches and later mated up to what ever part should happen to be in the bin.

I have a 4013TSW but mine was produced prior to having the rail put on. I would have bought it regardless. But I am glad it doesnt have it. As for the lettering, and the blacked out items. I like it that way. That and the small size is why I bought it.

You can always send it to S&W and have the rail removed and rivets placed in the holes. That way you would have TSW upgrades and be able to fit non-TSW holsters.

Jim, I agree 100%. I recently bought a 4566 with holster scuffs, apparantly from LEO use. doesn't look as good as picture, but I 'just had to have it. Probably paid to much, as far as market value. It's just how much you want it and what you are willing to pay. looks do not hurt the way it shoots, but I am considering having it glass beaded. I already spent on grips and spring kit; gotta be careful or can have too much invested. Just how much you are willing to pay and how bad you'gotta have it. Personnally I don't care for any writing on sides of gun.

Good luck. And get what you like. As I tell my wife, you gotta wear it!
