What made you a S&W fan?

When I first got my ccw I had to decide what to carry. I wanted something reliable, safe, can be pocket carried when needed, was in a caliber used by law enforcement and was fun to shoot lots at the range. Decided on a revolver and started researching what was available. I kept reading such things as something has a decent trigger but not as nice as a Smith and Wesson or the fit and finish is good but then it's not a Smith and Wesson or almost on par with a Smith and Wesson. That clenched it, I had to get a Smith and Wesson.
Since then, as far as I concerned, for revolvers the only one worth having is a Smith and Wesson.

I bought 2 J Frames for home defense, a model 36 .38 and a 637-2 .38. I shot them at the range, and my wife shot a gun for the first time with them. I inherited a original mod 66 (no dash) .357 in stainless, pinned, flushed and original silver rear sight from my step father. Im in the process of polishing it up by hand and will keep it until I keel over!:)

I went looking for a full frame semi-auto and the M&P .45 fit me prefect....so Im waiting on my permits to come in and hopefully pick it up at the end of this week. Im super excited!!!:D

I think the name and reputation means quality and definitely firearms to keep and pass down. I also just love the lines of their revolvers....just something about them... ;)

I honestly think Dirty Harry planted that first seed. Oddly enough my first Smith and Wesson was a 1006 and that really made me a fan. I have always been an auto pistol fan but now that I have discovered Smith revolvers my wish list keeps getting longer. I have 6 S&W revolvers on my must have list now.

While working on the ranch before I was even born, my dad bought a K-38 so I grew up thinking that S&W was the only game in town. Still do!

As a reserve police officer I carried a department M28 4". By the time I went full time I had bought a M27 6". I also acquired a M60 chiefs special as a backup. Later I bought a M66 6". At the range I was able to shoot other makes and models but none ever felt or shot as well as my Smith's. When it was time to try semi autos I wanted a 1911 45. Went to several gun shows and checked out many makes. Decided on a sw 1911 pd and finally found one for my price. Again S&W did not disappoint me. Finally, since I had acquired lots of 40 brass along with 45's I bought a M&P 40fs. Now, the M&P pistols are not great out of the box, but after installing several kits from Apex I have one smooth and straight shooting auto! Love my Smith's? you bet!

When I asked guys what to shoot NRA Bullseye target, a M19 6" was what I got.
For .22 it was a M41 5" HB.
Could not find a 1950 or 1955 S&W .45 ACP, so went with a Colt Gold Cup.
That was over 45 years ago & like my Smith revolvers more ever time I get another one... :)

I had to buy a hand gun when I went to work for a Police Department, and I couldn't afford a Colt. Still can't.

I got hooked on S&W in the SE Asia Games. I was passed (I consider it gifted with) a S&W Model 12 with the 2" barrel, by a rotating crew-member. He was leaving and I was replacing him after some OJT. I thank him for getting me hooked. I got a newer version of it for myself when I hit state-side. I have owned S&W ever since those days.

Seems like a very common thread here is our Dad's....are we paying it forward as well?

I had a great gun/shooting mentor when I was a teenager, he had a bunch of great pistols, but the two I loved shooting the most was his model 14, and the model 52. 52 is my grail gun...

Carrying a 6906 as a duty weapon and the first time I picked up and model 19 2 1/2 did it for me. It did not hurt the 19 shot as good as it looked and felt.

I felt and still do, the 6906 is the perfect balance of capacity, size and carry-ability for most people.

My first handgun was a 66-1 4" and never looked back.

I have the 6904 and couldn't agree more!:) Yes, I have a 3913 and love it equally...but all things considered it's hard to argue with 5 more rounds! (Or 4 depending on the 3913 mag)

As a kid in the 60's I read every gun rag I could and in an issue of "GUNS" the was a pencil barreled M-10 they were using in a reloading article. It was a color photo and I just fell in love with it. When I was in the Army I picked up a copy of "Cooper on Handguns" and he had a whole chapter on the M-60 and I knew I had to have one. bought my first M-60 in 1976.

The steel, the wood, the style, the quality, the history, made in America the look and feel.

I'd add thier customer service and the fact that long list of SW guns I want to buy will eat up all my money.

I'm not just brand loyal, I'm a SW fanatic. Currently trying to collect the entire M&P line from way back in the day to the polymers.

I became a fan when I first laid eyes on my dad's 1890 Baby Russian, handed down to him from my grandfather, who had it from his father. It wasn't shootable, but it was beautiful.

My Dad's always had and still has S&W revolvers among other guns. I've had shotguns and non S&W revolvers since my teen years. When I turned 50, I bought my first new S&W revolver (686) for my birthday. Dad helped educate me on S&Ws while I researched what model to buy. Yes I got a late start but man I'm having a ball shooting it. I'm glad Dad and I can still shoot together.

I blame Mike Venturino and David Wilson, and this site for providing a place where I can show off my goodies.

I was primarily a Ruger guy for a long time, although I bought my first S&W (a Brazilian 1917/37) in 1986. My primary shooting interest prior to that was IHMSA metallic silhouettes and the common wisdom of the time was that S&Ws wouldn't hold up to the heavy pounding of many full-house+ loads that we shot. Might've been true, might not have, I just stuck to Ruger and Dan Wesson in the Revolver category.

In the ensuing years I picked a few more 1917s because they were cheap and I loved the .45ACP, a Model 629-3 Mountain Gun, and a few other S&Ws amongst a wide variety of other arms. It wasn't until around 2000 when I bought a Model 17-4 for the woman who would become my wife, that my interest in S&W really picked up. It shot so well for her, and for me (even though I later noticed that the barrel is ringed!) that I bought one for myself, and Model 14s for both of us, and then the sickness really set in. My wife still has just the two, that's all she wants, but me... well, let's just say the quantity/time curve is alarmingly steep.

The United States Air Force. Prior to being issued my first Model 15 I fancied myself a Colt guy. I still like the occasional Colt, but Smiths are my main interest.
