What Magwell Grips Have You All Used?

Thanks for the repeat of everything I just posted. Lol

Actually, just adding some clarification to your points for those that aren't too NFA savvy. Wouldn't want someone to think they would walk into any 07/02's shop and expect to pay $5 and walk out with their fancy new AOW. Realisitically with e-forms, a trust, and a generous manufacturer...you'd be looking at 5 months and $100+.

Magwell grips are not worth their weight or the trouble installing them. The Mako one requires extensive fitting.

A magwell grip is fine for high power or Camp Perry style shooting. That isn't what the 15-22 is suited for.

Having the support hand further forwards allows you to move between targets quicker and control what muzzle rise there is on a .22. Pretty much what the 15-22 excells at.

If you find you absolutely need to hold it that close you can grab the lower, at the magwell.

See post #3. It's a 15-22p (pistol). There's barely enough room to fit your hand as it is, let alone move it forward without risking shooting your index finger off.

OP, the magwell grip will require modification as others have mentioned. I'm not a fan of them at all on any RIFLE but in your case, I can absolutely see why you would be looking into it. Might be worth the effort for the pistol. Same grip I use for my Tec-9.

One thing that might be an issue with a magwell grip on a pistol is whether or not it would actually be considered a vertical forward grip...? A magwell on it's own is not intended to be or considered a grip by the ATF, but once you add something to specifically make it into a grip, that might be getting into AOW territory.

Probably worth writing a letter to the tech branch to get a determination. The time it takes to get a determination letter back might be long enough that a Form 1 to register it as an SBR or AOW would come back more quickly. Also, unless it was absolutely necessary to transfer across state lines without filling out a Form 5320.20, it would be better to register a pistol as an SBR rather than an AOW.

There already is an ATF clarification letter saying magwell grips on AR pistols are okay, as they also serve a function as a magwell flare for easier mag insertion.

Like I said, already looked into it, already know it's okay to do, all I am asking is which ones people have found to work on their 15-22's, hoping to find one that did not require modification.

Link to ATF letter? I did a quick search and didn't see one.

According to MAKO, their magwell grip is NOT legal to be used on a pistol. I haven't seen a letter on it either.

There used to be a product called extreme shock gripwell magazine well extension that actually attached to the weapon securely and was not considered a grip. But it was discontinued.

The ERGO never quit magwell grip is a good one to see if it is legal also. I wouldn't trust any salespeople or manufacturers on the law.

As for the 'according to MAKO' bit, that was just one representative at the company just playing it safe and saying 'no'
