Agree with bronco, the first one is a post-war (after 1945) Military & Police with a 4" barrel. However, I think the second one is also, with a 5" barrel, but it was made before or during WW II and is likely one from a military contract. You didn't mention the caliber of either, but it would be stamped on the right side of the barrel - probably ".38 S & W Special" for the 4" and ".38 S & W CTG" for the 5". These are two different cartridges, with the first being much more readily available.
If you can give a partial serial number with any letters from the bottom of the grip frame (V 123xxx, C 345xxx) we can tell you when they were shipped from the factory. Hope this is helpful.
