Hi,

Which other S&W semi-auto model grips will also fit the Model 915?

Thanks.

Any grip made for the 5906 and assocated models

Thanks for the reply.

I'm not clear on which models would be considered "associated models."

Would those models include all models in the 5900 series?

Not all models in the 5900 series because it would exclude the 5926. But it would include all full size 3rd Gen 9mm and .40cal double stack DA/SA with traditional slide-mount thumb decock lever and DAO pistols.

5906
5905
5904
5903
5946
4006
4003
4046
910

And almost/maybe/possibly the Performance Center 3566 Limited, PPC-9 and 4006 Limited.

It would not include any pistols before the 3rd Gen pistols, not any of the 69xx compacts and none of the single stack guns.

Oops, add the Value Line .40's, the models 411 and 410.

How about the 915?

Will the 5900 series magazine fit as well? My 915 came used with only one magazine. Have several for 5903. Just haven't tried yet to see if they fit and function.

The S&W double stack 9mm magazine for the 3rd Gen 5900 series is used in a LOT of places and the equivalent Mec-Gar magazine with black finish is a perfectly good substitute. This magazine has been used as OEM in a couple different pistol caliber carbines too, including the Kel-Tec Sub-2000 and the old Marlin Camp Carbine.

The exterior dimensions of the 59/659/5906 magazine is basically the same as the Beretta 92 and Browning Hi-Power magazine. They vary in length and also with the size and location of the magazine catch but the dimensions are almost the "early standard" for a service size double-stack 9mm pistol.

So yes, a 5903/5906 magazine will work well in all the models listed above, but only the 9mm ones of course.

I'm confused, as usual.

My Model 915 has a factory original one-piece, wrap around grip on it.

I believe some of the other models mentioned, perhaps MOST of them, take two piece grip sets.

Does this mean my 915 can also wear two piece grip sets?

Hogue wood grips will also fit a 915 just like a 5900 series gun.

How are theses two piece grip sets attached? I'm not going to take the one-piece grip off mine to look.

But are there grip screw holes on both sides of the grip frame?

There is an adapter that the pin of your original grips goes into that has holes for the Hogue grips attach to. It is very simple to install.

I understand now.

I took my grip off to see what was going on.

Putting a two grip set on looks "do-able" but it doesn't look simple to install.

Maybe we'll hear from someone else who has done it.

Believe me they are very simple to install, easier than Original grips.

When S&W debut the 3rd Gens in 1988 one of the goals in mind was to make them more ergonomically friendly and for the double stack guns, part of that meant slimming them down. The one-piece grip helped to accomplish that but of course -- it really made aftermarket options difficult or at least different than it always had been.

Hogue had the most success, Pachmayr made a grip that just didn't sell well. My absolute favorite came from a small outfit name Farrar Tool.

In retrospect, many might agree that the one-piece grip isn't everyone's favorite part of the design. I find them attractive looking but slippery and not at all grippy.

If you own or have access to a 59 or 659 and you can pick one up and compare it to a 5906 (or 915!) you can see how very much they certainly did improve the ergonomics of the fantastic design.

The Farrar grips were nice in that they made them in both straight and curved backstrap styles. There is a seller on Ebay that seems to have several NOS examples.
