I think it's from one of my J-frames:

Do you have any semi-auto parts that could be mixed in? That strut looks like it belongs to a semi-auto, but not to a S&W J frame.

It's not for a J frame. Here's the parts list for a model 63. As you can see the mainspring stirrup (part #7083) looks nothing like yours in the picture. Also the mainspring on the J frame is not captive on the stirrup like yours.

I haven't any idea what this is from but, hopefully, someone will ID it for you.

When you get older you will find labeling parts almost becomes mandatory.
I can't even put a part in a baggie and label the baggie anymore ... I take the part out and then loose the baggie and left with a unknown .
I have to attach a label to the part and hope I don't loose the part ...
Getting old has some serious side effects !!!
If you are not yet 40 .... watch out for them side effects ...they sneak up on you .

Its the one that goes "boing" and flies across the room only to be found the next a day after you have ordered the replacement.

Did you ever convert an older Sig P226 to the new E2 grips? That looks like the old mainspring which would have been replaced by the new one in the kit.
Good shootin',
Doug

Of course mine is the older P220 assembly (show on the left):
