Looking for new grips for my 29-2,6.5". Currently have presentations, but looking at Culina combats. For those that shoot these occasionally, what's most comfortable?

I don't have a -2, but I do own a 29-3.

I have a set of Kurac (Culina) "coke bottle" grips on it.
I'd recommend them to anybody. They're the most comfortable grips I own.
They fill out the palm of your hand nicely and they're smooth so the checkering doesn't chew on your hand.

No matter what you buy, his quality will impress.

Presentations. Sorry, I know that does not help. I have XL hands and shoot my 29's with them or cokes. If you have smaller hands you might like Magnas. You shootin full house or loaded down loads?

Shooting mainly specials, average size hands I'd say... Wondering how the combats compare to the smooth presentations?

For me, trying to shoot a Model 29 or 629 with checkered target stocks and full-power ammunition is a lot like trying to hang onto a flat ******* mill file while King Kong is trying to tear it from your hands. Seems counterintuitive to many, but I find smooth stocks, like S&W presentation stocks, or Culina's delightful smooth stocks, let me shoot with less skin-abrasion while still looking good.

If I'm going hunting and the going may get rough, I usually take the pretty wood off and screw on some tough older Pachmayrs, usually the Gripper models.

For shooting, ugly rubber pachmayr grips. For looking at anything but ugly rubber grips. :D

( the Pachmayr exposed backstrap model are my favorites)

For full power loads and knocking around in the woods I like Pachys. For range time and carry I like smooth targets or Magnas with a T-grip.

You can't go wrong with a set of Johns grips. Plus, he is a top notch guy to deal with!

Favorite Style of Grips

This is my only 29-2, and it is a commemorative and I will probably never shoot it. That said, it has the style of grips that I favor on a .44. A smooth "coke" grip, which is a bit thinner, would fit my hand better.

For shooting the Hogue monogrips are great. They're just butt ugly.
For the best combination of good looking and most comfortable, a set of original Cokes will be about as good as you'll get - but they're VERY spendy....

Smooth targets/Presentations for me, for all shooting and and all square-butt guns. To the OP: if you no longer want yours, send me a picture of them; I might take them off your hands.

Regards,
Andy

I use model 29's as carry guns and hunting guns.
So I only use magna grips,,you can choke up on the grip and the recoil has more rearward movement instead of barrel flip,, which helps to get back on target faster.

I like original football targets on my 29-2's and Eagle Heritage round-to-square conversions on my 629's.
