I have a chance to buy either gun (S&W Model 539 or 39-2) what would your choice be.
Both are price about the same.

Thanks in Advance for your response.

I would take the 539 - it would have the benefits of the 2nd generation improvements. The 539 is a less common pistol that was only made for two years or so. Keep in mind that the 539 is a heavier pistol as it has a steel frame vs the alloy frame of the 39-2. This does help response to recoil but it might hamper concealed carry a bit. I have a 39-2 and a 639 and I do enjoy shooting both of them.

Absolutely buy the 539. At least buy it first. Comparatively speaking, very few were made so there will be more opportunity for a 39 later. And while only one opinion among many, I believe the steel frame is a bit more pleasant to shoot. After more consideration...... what the heck - buy both.

539

If you go for the 39-2, would you PM me where the 539 is, and how much? :)
Seriously.

I'll throw in with the 539 vote... I stumbled onto a NIB 559 last year, I like it a helluva a lot better than the 459 I had.

The 59's had some problem with frames cracking near the slide stop lever hole to the slide rail... the 2nd gen addressed that.

Also, the steel frame does add weight and helps to buffer the 9mm recoil.

As other have said... the steel frame versions of the 2nd gen pistols are found in much less numbers.
