My Academy just got some. They are going for $3.99/100. I don't know if this is a fair price.

Well, it's a few dollars more than I can find them for (with a bit of comparison shopping) here in central New Hampshire, but there are also plenty of places selling them for about that price. Sadly, as we know, prices for everything have grown leaps and bounds lately - at $40 a brick, that price for primers strikes me as a bit on the high side but not ridiculous. (Saw someone trying to get $80 for a brick of Remington Thunderbolt .22 - now THAT's ridiculous.) FWIW, the supply of primers is slowly but surely returning to normal up here.

Supply and demand. It is not a steal but that's what they cost now a days. Sad but true.

If it's the only "game" in town then if you need them you pay.

I'm trying to gather components prior to starting to reload. BTW what powder do you folks for .223 in the 55-69 grain bullets

$3.99 a 100 equals $39.90 a 1000. I've been paying $40 a 1000 for a good bit. I don't think you can complain about that price.

I use BLC(2) or CFE223 for 5.56/.223, I also use CCI #41 in an AR. Widener has them for 33.50 per K https://www.wideners.com/itemdetail.cfm?item_id=253&dir=278|284|316, They also have S&B small rifle primers for $23.50 per K,https://www.wideners.com/itemdetail.cfm?item_id=100001604&dir=278|284|1589 I've used S&B many times and have had no problems. Online you have to pay $28.00 hazmat (per order) but I usually order 5K at a time to spread that charge out.

Depends on who's seeling them

I have paid as much as 65.00 for 1k CCI sm pistol and as little as 29.95 for the same thing. Gun show prices versus local GS/Thief I bought 2 handguns and 1 rifle from that louse and never went back after he got me on the primers, over the winter ammo was hard to find and I had the bullets and primers so I had to fork over the 65.00

I've been using 4198 since I picked up a .223 earlier this year. Been happy with it. If economy is important to you, you will like this powder. Mid range loads for this powder will give you about 350 rounds per lb. Most other powders are under 300 per lb. I don't use it just because it is cheaper, but it is an extra bonus. Costs about $2 less per 100 rounds vs CFE 223.

The only other powder I have used is about 20 loaded with 4895. When I started loading for 223 there was nothing available locally. When some 4198 showed up I grabbed a couple bottles. There are several options available on the shelf now.

We are paying $40 - $50 per K for primers here.

I also use 4198 and I just recently finished up a bottle of Reloader 10x. I really like Reloader 10x for .223 and 55 grain bullets.

Primers here are going for $4.99/100 at some places (Gander Mountain) and others are offering them at $3.99/100 but with amount limits (usually 500 primers).

$35-$40/K in my area. Gun show around $32-$35. So far, all I've used is Varget for my 223 reloads. Seems to do a good job (for me anyway) for 55 FMJ standard loads out of my Bushmaster carbine.

Among the big three - CCI, Federal and Winchester - $4 a hundred or $35 a thousand is the going rate in Ohio with monthly sales either at Vance's or Cabela's taking the per thousand price down to $30.

But $4 a hundred is pretty much standard.

$4.99 has been the going price here for quite some time. Some don't sell packs, only bricks. That price is generally around $45-49/1000.

You can't beat Varget for .223 reloads, in my opinion.
I have tried other powders, but always come back to Varget.

While there are many powders available that can be used, if you can get your hands on some Varget look no further. I also use IMR4895 in a pinch when Varget is out. The only bullet I shoot is the 69 gr Sierra HPBT.
