What to do with an ugly M29-2?

I'd get a bottle of Van's instant blue, and a bottle of Brownells 44/40. Use a separate small bowl and mix 1/2 oz of each in the bowl. Use a good degreaser on the 29 and swabe on the mix. Let it sit for a couple of minutes and wipe off with an oily rag.
Stick in holster and go hunting. Touch up as needed. Enjoy!

Bob Cogan of Accurate Plating and Weaponry talked me into this after Gregg, Tulsamal and Superman pointed me in the right direction. Thanks to March41 for the 6 1/2 inch barrel. I have exactly $818 dollars into the rebuild. Would anyone offer $850 for it? I bet you would! I now have what is bound to be my favorite Smith & Wesson and she will get carried everywhere during hunting season with no worries. All I need to do now is order a spring kit from Wolff Gunsprings and refinish the stocks. It is my own custom revolver, exactly as I wanted it.

Gregg was right about the finish, like stainless but better looking and feeling. Thanks again to all.

Choot it Lizabet! I look at the gun as some guys look at rat rods. Not pretty, but with gobs of "character" and lot of fun to horse with. Not for everyone, but rat rods make me grin. Same with your revolver.

Yes, Understood, but she is pretty now, and tough too!
And she will get shot!

If you must reblue try Mel Doyle in Plummer Idaho, usually you'll have the gun back home within a weeks time(202)686-1006. He did an Israeli imported BHP for me and it turned out beautiful.

Well, Eagle, after 1 1/2 years your 29 looks fantastic now.
Did it take all this time to have it done?
I am LOL'ing at the posts that are still telling you
what to do with the "ugly" gun.

Yes Mike, I think they didn't see the finished pictures! I did it as a pay as I go project, I still have to finish the stocks and get a good holster and a speed loader carrier. then this project will be complete.

This is actually a GOOD zombie thread! Your 29 is a perfect hunter now.

I'm looking for an ugly long nose 29. I've always loved the look of a 3 1/2" barrel, and that would be the route I would go, probably with a good nickel refinish and a nice set of Patrick's stags, along with a Tgrip....
