So, it's been a slow summer and my van decided it needs to break down on me. Due to lack of disposable funds I'm forced to sell a pistol to pay for the repairs. It's down to my 9mm Shield with 3 mags or my 908 with 3 mags as well. I can CC both guns so the larger size of the 908 doesn't bother me at all. I like both guns and they are pretty much at the same dollar value. With all that said...my EDC is my trusted 642 so the 9s pretty much stay home. I'm not sure what to get rid of so I'm asking for insight and opinions. Honestly, I don't want to get rid of anything but I do need my vehicle fixed. What do you all think?

Sell your blood like I do. :o

The answer is not ours to offer. The answer is obvious..

If you must get rid of one then get rid of the one you least like and least use.

Or borrow some $$$$$$$ from a relative or good friend and keep both.

Or sell both, then you will not feel bad about selling one and not the other instead.

Or get a new vehicle.

I sold my 908 to buy a Shield with no regrets, so my opinion differs from the norm here. Now if that 908 was a 3914 I would have a very different opinion. Just my $0.02.

I'm more inclined to keeping the 908 just because I've always like the gun. The Shield is more of a one trick pony in a way. The 908 is small enough to conceal and big enough to have fun at the range. The Shield is just....small.

One thing harder to come by than a 908 is replacement parts for a 908. I have a 3913 that I bought new when they first came out and was my off duty/back up gun for 15 years or so. 3rd generation guns were great for their time, but to my personal taste, they sit too high in my hand causing the axis of the bore to be quite higher than that of the Shield. The Shield sits lower with much better ergonomics.

When I learned how hard replacement parts for the 3913 are to come by, the old gal got moved to the back of the safe. Everyones views and values differ but to me, the M&P series auto pistols are way a head of 3rd generation guns. Good luck with your financial woes, been there many times in my youth.

In the real world, you may have to put both of them on sale and just see which one sells first. :o Repair bills don't wait around forever to be paid... and who knows which one would sell faster (or fast enough) in your area?

Model-wise, it's a toss-up. Putting my 3rd Gen collector's feelings aside for a moment... those two guns perform essentially the same function in slightly different ways. In my area, I could replace a Shield in about 15 minutes. Replacing a Model 908 could take a while (weeks or months) unless you went right away to that popular gun auction website or happen to be very lucky.

Honestly, neither loss would be enough to make me lose sleep at night. Both are reasonably/readily replaceable if/when the time comes to do so. I wouldn't sell my own 908 but I still have a few other options should a car or truck repair bill knock me off my feet. :o

I suggest selling the one that does not feel as good in your hand then the other one. One will feel slightly better to you and thats the one I would keep. It also has to look better to you as well.
