What type of optic do you run on your M&P15?
I have an Aimpoint Pro on mine and it's solid. However, If the Vortex Sparc AR would have been available before I purchased the Aimpoint I'd probably would have gone that route and saved some cash, it's half the price of the Aimpoint and I've heard is also very solid as well.

Aimpoint PRO or ACO, however, use, quality, cost and use are all considerations.
If you want a more accurate poll based on use/purpose, you should be more specific. I.e. I wouldn't put a red dot on rifle used for hunting.

I have the EOTech and the Nikon 223 for mine and can switch between the two with out much trouble depending on which I prefer at the time.
Aimpoint PRO..... I also like a low power variable 1-4 or 1-5 X20.
You can't hunt with a semi in Pa.......so

Use the 3-9 Nikon as my eyes need the help and to make a better hit on any critters I shoot at. 5.56 needs good placement to be effective.

Put a Vortex Strikefire II on my AR a few months ago. It was my first foray into red dot sights. Now I wonder why I waited so long!

I prefer a 1-4X or 1-6X. As long as it's a true 1X and can be used just like a red dot.
I have an old EoTech 557, no longer made. When it failed about year after purchase, EoTech upgraded the battery contacts on warranty, been fine ever since. I use EoTech 3x G33 quick release magnifier behind it.
The Eotech co-witnesses the front post and Troy BUIS, so I can shoot irons through the Eotech, or remove it with a coin. It holds zero quite well after I remove it and reattach it.
The EoTech would be the go-to for a fight, but I usually shoot the irons just because I enjoy it.

I tailor my sighting equipment to the mission. I have a CQB M4 type AR that wears a holographic sight in addition to a laser (for extreme CQB), and iron back ups. My long range AR which may be used for 1000 yard matches, and most definitely 600 yard F class matches, wears an old El Pass Weaver T10. My A2 Service Rifle wears 1/2 MOA National Match iron sights.

When/if I get around to putting it on this rifle, I have a Burris Fullfield II 2-7X. Like others here, my gradually aging eyes don't take to 200-400 yd ranges like they once did, and 2-7x is plenty effective, while not being annoyingly heavy,long or bulky. And, the Burris FFII's are a decent quality scope for relatively little money.

I've got both a scope-Bushnell trophy xlt, and a red dot-vortex strikefire 2. What my Sport II wears depends on the situation. If I'm heading to the range, the bushnell is mounted. Otherwise, the vortex is mounted.

...I don't own an AR...but I always thought they looked good and were well equipped with a 1-4x scope...I don't know anyone in the video...just found it on Youtube...

I have a Bushnell TRS-25 on my Sport 2 and a Vortex Strikefire 2 on my 15-22. Both work very well as reliable accurate red dot sights.
Both rifles reside on my Study wall with full magazines and an empty chamber. I have other HD guns, but I will try to get to my Study if there is a problem in the house.
The Vortex is an excellent sight, but it turns it's self off after six hours. The TRS-25 will stay on indefinitely, and I have been testing it to see how long the battery lasts and so far it has been on for 6 weeks with no noticeable difference in brightness. The dot is set on setting 4 which is great for in-home HD, particularly teamed with a laser for extreme close range.
So far I am very pleased with the battery life of the Bushnell. I leave it on all the time, and if I have to change the battery every month or two, so be it. Teamed with my AR, the TRS-25 makes a formidable home defense weapon, particularly since I will be using a 9mm pistol to make sure I can get to my Study.
I know some of you don't have a lot of confidence in the cheap TRS-25, but for me it works.
Just my 2 cents.

Don't own a M&P AR15 but I do own a few other brands. Like my signature says "Use should dictate gear!" I voted Red Dot because that is what is on the majority of my AR15s but I also have other optics.
For defense guns that will be used to protect myself and my family Aimpoint Red Dots are my choice. I like the H2/T2 if you have the coin or a Aimpoint Pro on the budget end. Red dots are excellent for spitting distance to 200 yards for me. They are fast to target and accurate enough. I can easily shoot minute of man with Aimpoints and I cannot see a situation where I am engaging beyond that. I mainly use these on 14.5" and 16" guns. If I had to choose only one it would be a Aimpoint T2.
I also run a few 1x6 variable scopes on quick detach mounts. These days that means a Primary Arms 1x6 on a American Defense mount. I like this setup for something that can push out to 300 with the ability to tighten groups if I am up to it. I use this on a 18" build.
I am also looking or an ACOG in 2017 to use on a Colt 6920.
In the end you have to look at what you want to do with the rifle. What your vision is capable of and of course your budget.

I have the Nikon P223 3-9x40mm scope on two of my AR-15's
fyimo, what are the specs on that SS barrel? Brand, twist, grade of SS, etc.
I use iron sights on my Sport I (I am keeping that one stock/factory). On my AR-556, a cheap, PROVEN, Fieldsport red dot with iron sights as back up.
Going with the optic that is part of your go to set up. If it hit the fan, it's what you are using that you have in your inventory to go. If I did multiple choice, you'd just have people clicking away on what they have or what they would bring that they have to adapt. Just grab your rifle and go options.
