Yes. When I was a child, and even a young adult, the French centigrade system was called Centigrade. Then certain people got very uppity, and started calling it Celsius, correcting those who used the plebeian term Centigrade. In their defense, it may have been to distinguish it from the other centigrade system, Kelvin. Meanwhile, Fahrenheit is seldom confused with Rankine, because nobody uses the latter.Just by coincidence, 40 below zero is where Fahrenheit and Celsius (Centrigrade when I was a kid) match.
