The last brand new S&W I purchased was a M38 in 1979. I've purchased more than a few second hand S&Ws since then, but not one brand new and not one post 1980 model.

Thanks to friends (one owns a LGS), I've taken the opportunity to shoot virtually all the models S&W has produced since 1980 - with the exception of the 500 and 460 cal revolvers, but none have made me feel that 'I want this thing' impulse. Some I've disliked, some I thought were OK but none called to me.

Maybe it's age. Different strokes, I guess.

How about you?

In 1983, I bought, brand spanking new, a beautiful 2 1/2" nickel Model 19. The only problem that I had with it is that I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with it. I was very disappointed with it, and sold it to a fellow officer, neglecting to mention the accuracy problems. He later told me that it was one the most accurate guns he'd ever owned. Yep, the truth hurts.

I bought my daughter a bnib 442 no-lock about 5-6 years ago.

The last new S&W I bought for myself was a 625-5 in .45 Colt, probably 17-18 years ago. It had hammer-mounted firing pin, etc. I got rid of it a few years ago, and just mildly regret getting rid of it, although I am pleased with what I traded for.

I'm terrible at remembering dates, and I don't keep a journal or anything. Those times are "close."

I think it was my 625-11 or 629-? Ported PC revolver, about 3-4 years ago. They are both very good guns and accurate, smooth double action shooters. Wish I'd have bought one of the Nightguard revolvers in 10mm or 357 when they were available......

An M&P 9MM Shield.
Bought it a few weeks ago.

I purchased a brand new 686 about 3-4 years ago. No canted barrel, the fit and finish are very nice. I haven't shot it much, but I've enjoyed what I have shot out of it.

I like it.

New was the Shields mine about yr n a1/2 and wifes a little over a yr ago.

The last S&W I bought was a new SD40VE a couple of months ago...paid $299 + tax for it, IIRC.

2007, this 5" model 60. It is also the first Smith I bought. Yep, it has the lock. I guess I didn't know any better at the time, but it has never given me a bit of trouble.

The Hogue grips came off not too much after this photo; it now has the original wood grips back on it.

I had no plans on buying it but when I seen her pimped out in that shiney New nickel it set my heart a thumping. Like I was watching all three of my children born all at the same time again. There in there late 30's now.

She was a brand new s&w model 24 in 44 special with a 6 1/2" barrel in that world famous s&w nickel shiney finish. With the loc which I could care less about. So she's really Purdy, she's been along times at my LGS looking for a home buy the label and Price tag. I purchased the last brand new s&w m24 N Frame he had.

S&w has halted the production run on these.

Ok why a m24 in 44special do you ask when the 44magnum can shoot the 44special. I don't want the fire ring residue in my 44magnum cylinder that the shorter case leaves. It's going to be worse with the leadcast bullets. Ok I'll come clean its an excuse to buy a m24 too. I'm sorry for the smoke screen.
