I have a lot of N frames, to me, there is nothing quite like the look and feel of one. But there is only one first N frame. For me it was a 8 3/8ths model 57 in 41 magnum. I shot it a lot, handloads in 170 jhp, 210 jhp, thousands of cast 212 gr SWCs and even some 240 grain heavy loads. I took several deer with it. I still have the gun and still shot it once in a while. That long barrel makes the front sight easier to see these days. I will always have a soft spot for the 41. Shotgunner

This was purchased NEW in 1978 but I do not recall what I paid for it

I still own it today along with the first NEW auto loader that I ever bought, the first NEW rifle and my first NEW shotgun

At the time I was on the fence between this and a 6" Royal Blue Colt Python with the optional Custom Shop Ellison sights.

I did eventually add that Python since a buddy of mine bought it. I got it from him about 25 years ago for $465

I bought an N Frame M27 with the 8-3/8" barrel in the 70s. Amazingly bad QC on that gun. It was my first N Frame.

Same, only I bought my long tube two years ago. Since then, 7 more N frame have followed me home. Being 6’6” tall, they feel perfect in my hand.

.38/44 Heavy Duty. Bought it when I was 18 or so. Someone had renickel plated the gun and rechamber it to .357 Magnum.

Of course, being a young gun nut I traded it off.

It was either a Model 25-2 6 1/2" nickel or a Model 29-3 6" nickel NIB. They were both bought in 1989 when I began my buying spree for S&W revolvers. The gun show vendor who sold me the 25-2 nickel tried to welsh on the deal when he realized it was 6 1/2" bbl. Needless to say I won the argument.

My first N-Frame was also my 1st handgun when I reached the legal age in CA to own one... 21

A few days after my birthday, I went to a large shopping mall with an Oshman's sporting goods store (long defunct chain) with a budget of $150.

They had two .357 Magnum revolvers in my price range... a S&W M28-2 with 4" bbl and a SA Colt New Frontier, nickel with a 7-1/2" bbl.

I got the M28-2 for $135.00. That M28-2 went on to become my duty weapon when I became a LEO a few years later. That's it pictured in my avatar.

Mine was a 4" m29 in BDH, Before Dirty Harry. I didn't like 4" guns that well and traded it to a guy that had to have it because of DH movie. He sent it to S&W and had 83/8" barrel put on it. Most people think Clint had 83/8" when he actually had the 61/2". I had 1917s before but didn't have any use for them.

My first N frame was a 1917. The second one fits this section-1961 to 1980; it was a 3 1/2" M27-2. I fired one box of Remington .357 ammo through it. You could hardly see the rifling.

I removed the barrel and took the revolver and a 6 1/2" .44 Special target barrel to Ralph Walker in Selma, Alabama. In a few months I had me a .44 Special six gun. :) This was in 1976. In 2006, I had David Clements cut the barrel to 5", fit a Baughman ramp front sight and re-blue it.

My first "N" frame was a 6.5" barreled 624 in 44 special. Bought it about 10 years ago. That started the hint for a 24-3 4" bbld one followed by the #" bbld 24-3 with the combat grips. Since then except for one of the Brazilian 1937 contract "N" frank 45 acp's and that is all. Frank

It took 2 years and 9 months for my name to rise to the top of a retailer's list for the opportunity to pay full retail plus tax for an 8 3/8" 29-2, $252 OTD. Ones in excellent condition were selling for $450 in The Little Nickel classified ads. A stranger 2 to 3 times my age wearing business suit stood next to me drooling while I bought it. Before I turned away from the counter to leave with it he shoved five one hundred dollar bills under my nose. I kept my 29-2 for a long time. It was my first N frame.
