What was your first N frame?

A model 57, 6" barrel, blue, beautiful. Sold it, regretted it ever since. Shot a group of three, 50 yards, a cloverleaf. Had a very reliable witness, still have the target.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

P. S. I recently purchased/traded for, a model 27-2, 6" barrel, beautiful, my second N frame.

My first N-frame revolver was a blued Model 29-2 with a 6-1/2" barrel, Ser. No N121704. I purchased it new in the presentation case in 1973 at Cheshire & Perez, in Monrovia, California.

C&P was the west coast Smith & Wesson factory authorized service center and essentially a police supply business open to the public. I was in line for service when the fellow ahead of me passed on the gun. When my turn came, I bought the gun immediately and paid what was MSRP at the time, $203.50.

I sold the gun maybe 10 years later and nearly doubled my money. Subsequently, I purchased a blued 29-2 with an 8-3/8" barrel, and a 4" Nickel 29-2, which I still have.

Given my collecting interests now, my first N frame is a bit of an anomaly. I was trying to find a four inch .44 Magnum and at the time could not, so I worked a trade for this one.

Model 625 in .45 Colt. I think the only time I have ever fired it was to finish off a deer.

I have too many N frames now and that's amazing as I never warmed up to the first one.

This, somewhere around '82 or so. Traded both a 44 mag Super Blackhawk and a Ruger Std Auto for it at a sports and western apparel store in Lewistown, MT. I "played" with it up until about '86 when I went back to college for another degree. Then four years later when I left the Rockies for a job in SoCal the 29-2 more or less went into a time capsule in Upstate NY at my late Mom & Dad's house. Stayed there for decades before finally rejoining me in N GA. Only change was the case lining I replaced.

I did carry it and shoot it while in both WY and UT. Even took a few poor harmless rock chucks with it. Then I remember the time falling into a waist deep snow drift with it while holstered. As for the stocks today, they are mint. Because most of the time while carrying it I had pachmayer's on it :)

My first handgun was a model 28-2 purchased in 1972. I didn't know much back then and I have owned many different models of S&W.

My first N Frame was/is this model29-3. My hands are kinda large so I
took the factory stocks off and put on these Herrett's Cocobolos that are
a bit larger. Model 29 on the right, model 27 on the left.
Some of it's favorite holsters are shown left to right:
Chic Gaylord Combat Speed Scabbard
Myres #614 Tom Threepersons
Idaho Leather basket weave & laced
Sparks 200AW

My first was a 27-2 8-3/8. Bought it unfired like new in the box a couple years ago. After adding a set of hogue grips, it has become my favorite handgun.

Beautiful, as your photos always are. Such nice revolvers and leather. Please add me to your will. :-)

Have a blessed day,

1. 38-44 HD, 5" Nickel bought it in late1967early 68 for 45$
2. M57 NIB, wooden case, ect. 4" Blued 'S' prefix ser# $110. 1968 just before GCA68 took effect in December and cut me off from buying anymore handguns for a while.

A 4" Model 28-2 purchased in 1972 for $125. Purchased for the sole purpose of converting it to .44 Spl using an original S&W Model 24 barrel from J&G. Still have it and I've posted its picture on this forum several times when the appropriate topic came up, so here it is again...

Probably the most accurate Smith I own. The conversion was done by George Matthews of Downey, CA.

Adios,

My first one was this Feb 1955 shipped, 4" barreled Highway Patrolman. It came to me with a set of miss-matched, beat up diamond PC stocks. A couple of months later, the current grips arrived from Patrick Grasshorn - they are there to stay. :)

...it started my N-Frame .357 Magnum addiction:D

It was 1969, I was 17 years old, and my mother had to sign for me.....thanks to the ‘68 gun control bill!

I bought a 4”, Model 28. Shot it a lot, hunted with it some, and carried when working as a Police Reserve Officer. I still have it, one of my kids will get it when I “croak”! memtb

I find it interesting how many of us started out with Model 28/Highway Patrolman revolvers. My (late) father gave me a new Model 28-2 6” bbl. when I returned home from the Army in 1976. I practiced with that revolver almost everyday when I attended college. I still have it.

When I attended the WSP Academy they issued me a (used) revolver just like it and I still have that one too. Funny story: one day at the range, I guess they were hazing us a little because they made us shoot the qualification course while wearing our gas masks and due to the fact I really had to concentrate on the basics I qualified Master.

Years later we transitioned to auto pistols but I’ve never shot any of them as well as I did that old Highway Patrolman.
