What was your first N frame?

I too am part of the Model 28/Highway Patrolman group...
picked it up used from a friend that I was with when he bought it... from a friend/FFL that took it in on trade as we watched... asked what exactly is that... he said "a too big 357 magnum"... give me what I got in it and it is yours... friend was the N frame guy so he grabbed it for $250... a few months later I got it because it did not have a "4" in the caliber and he wanted a Judge... and I was the 357 guy anyway...
"S" model 28 with number matching magnas... dated to 1958/59 if I remember correctly... have added a few N-frames since... 44mag, 45acp, 45lc... the usual slippery slope... whatta ride

My first one was this Feb 1955 shipped, 4" barreled Highway Patrolman. It came to me with a set of miss-matched, beat up diamond PC stocks. A couple of months later, the current grips arrived from Patrick Grasshorn - they are there to stay.

Well... That brings me to my 3rd and last N frame(so far). It is a 6 inch model 28-2 from 1976(great year by the way. Think 1776).

I'm on the "wrong side" of the big pond for having a large N frame collection. but I do love the N frames.

I'll admit to be trying to add a 27 and something in a caliber starting with .4 to my meager N frame collection. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Model 29-2 with a 4 inch barrel. Bought it brand new in 1975 for $425, which was a fair chunk of change then.

My first N-frame is my S&W Model 625-9 in the excellent .45 Colt cartridge.

I had told my wife that I'd like to have a .45 Colt S&W double-action revolver to replace a small .38 Special revolver I kept in the nightstand drawer. My wife asked, "Won't the .38 stop a Booger?" I said, "Yes. But the .45 will have the Booger going the other way." To my surprise, my sweet wife went to our LGS, talked with her favorite gun seller, ordered the 625-9, and then gave it to me for a birthday gift.

A 5" 38/44 heavy duty which I bought for $231 in the mid nineties. Just this week I added a 627 which feels like a worthy grandson to the old HD.

My first was a 25-5 6” in 45 Colt. Gun shot very well. This was in my dry early years of revolvers. I got bored with it because I could not shoot hot loads. I sure do wish I had that one back.

M-57 4 inch bought in Fairbanks 1967 for my guiding. Sold it a year later because I was driving down the Alaska Highway through Canada. I missed that gun for many years. At a gun show here in Wyoming about 6 or 7 years ago I saw the fellow I sold it to. He still had it and wanted to sell it. Didn't even quibble over price. Still have it and won't sell it. I still have the original receipt. Going to my daughter one day. She has tried to pry it out of my hands quite a few times

A 27-2, 5" blue, purchased new in 1979 was my first N-frame. My first S&W was a Model 36 new in about 1973, Followed by a 39-2 new. Pre-model 14 (used), pre-model 17 (used). Also, a Model 40, 42, 37 and a few others either new or near new at the time. I recently gifted the 27-2, 5" to my 42 year old son.

Over the years I have gifted many of the original, earlier, S&Ws I purchased to Honorable Sons #1 (45 years old) and Honorable son #2 (42 years old). Mostly those that I purchased when new or near new before I started collecting certain models and vintages of S&W Models.

Got hooked on pre-war S&Ws by the time I was 30.

I started gifting the earlier purchased S&Ws, sporadically over the years, when the boys turned 21 years old. Both sons still have, and cherish, every S&W I ever gifted them.

This one. Bought it almost a year ago. Found out quickly that K frames fit my hands better.

As fun as it is to shoot, it’s currently still my only N frame. I’ll likely get around to adding a few more, but they’re not as high on the list.

It has, however, become my primary hunting sidearm.

My first N frame was also my first gun, a 1962 vintage 6” 28-2 Highway Patrolman. My Dad bought it from the brother of a friend in 1963, and gave it to me 25 years later. I still have it, no way I would ever sell it. I’ve owned dozens of other N frames over the years, have a dozen in the menagerie at the moment.

My first N frame was a WWII souvenir my dad brought back from Germany. Unfortunately, it is a Spanish copy of a triple lock .44 Special. It is inn really good condition.

This one, a 28-3 6'', 1982, full set sold at Ray's Sports Shop in Bound Brook NJ in late June of 1983. The next one I bought shortly after was a 28-2 unfired but covered in rust spots, restored with Kroil, bronze wool and patience and that is one of my favorite shooters on steel. I had upto then collected all kinds of Colts, Snakes, 1911s. Today I do not own a Colt.

My first N-frame was a M 28-2, purchased in August of 1973, shortly after I entered the academy. The Sheriff's Dept did not issue firearms in those far off days, we had to buy our own. I carried it almost to the end of my probation. I practiced weekly shooting Magnum hand loads and after 7-8 months of that the timing, carry up, indexing and end shake were all in need of attention. For a couple months I replaced it with a used but functional M58 that had caught my fancy, my second N-frame.
