What Was Your Rank

28 years combined Reserve, Guard, and Active Duty Air Force from '84-'12. E-1 to E-3...O-1 to O-6.

Gunner on AC-130a's, weapons mechanic on A-7d's. Commissioned service, mostly in security police/forces, staff puke at AMC and Air Staff (5-sided crack house), HQUSSOCOM HQ Cmdt then IG, terminal assignment as a group commander. Don't miss it much, but it sure was a helluva lot of fun.

E-5 s/sgt got off active duty after 4 years, served another 4 on active reserve figured 8 years of my own plus the twenty I served as a dependant was plenty for both me and the AIR FORCE.

E4-P Airframe. I woulda got my 5 if the cut off score went under 900.

I never understood why lesser MOS's could get 5 for doing less. Kinda like high school is now. Just show up.

3 years. Echo Tango Suitcase.

But, I'm proud to have served. Even in peace time we were needed, prepared and well trained.

AK-3 (E-4) Aviation Supply--Was on a Kiddy Cruise too, but 8 days after I turned 17, I was at Great Lakes Naval Training Center. So, I served 4 years, lacking 8 days. Those and my time as a LEO are the best years of my life!
olcop

You beat me. I turned 17 on the 24th of September. I arrived at Great Lakes on 29 December.:D

First I would like to say thank you all for serving. I really mean that.

Second, this post is making me sad a bit. I thought about joining when I was young but there were reasons I did not. In hindsight I should have said "tough cr*p, I'm doing it."
I was a late bloomer and this would have helped me grow up sooner than I did. Since I enjoy history I can only read about submarines or Marine tactics that I could have been part of.

If there is any consolation to this my daughter is dating a retired Marine who is a topnotch quality individual and could be my future son in law. He qualified for SEALS and passed everything but they found out he is color blind.
Two tours in Iraq and retired as a high rank Sergeant but I don't know exactly what.

THANK YOU ALL FOR SERVING.

I made to E-6 Technical Sargent. I was told I had a attitude, I liked to do my job the safe way, not the air force way. retired 20 years 2 months 21 days. 60570, Air Transportation. I loved the service and would do it again.

Well, since you still can't spell "sergeant" I'm guessing you still have an attitude!!!!:D:D:D

It was a fun ride wasn't it???

With my 2 month early out in March of 1970 I had 3 years and 10 months. I made E-4 in about 20 months just prior to going TDY to Japan and SEA for TET of 1968. At that time we were ranked as Sergeant and called Buck Sergeants. Now I believe USAF E-4's are ranked as Senior Airmen.

The USAF has changed the E-1 through E-4 rank designations several time during the past 45 or so years to avoid having 3rd and 2nd class airmen.

Thank you all for your service.

I'm kinda really interested in all those "mavericks" that started out as enlisted, and made it to officer country. Does that happen today?
