What weapon used by Holocaust museum shooter?

Talked to someone today who said it was a .22 and the guard was wearing a vest... bullet entered right around his collar bone.

Someone on RFC posted that an OTR source said the rifle was a Winchester model 6. Take it for what it's worth.

I'm not familiar with that model. If anyone has info or a pic I'd be interested to hear about it.

I suspect that it's tough for anyone to believe that a good guy can be taken out by a bad guy using damned near anything?
Witness LHO circa' 63' as proof.

I'll say that on a recent trip to DC, I was appalled at the lousy, fake "security" at all the museums I visited, clearly intended for show and nothing more. An example -- at the Air & Space museum they had a supposed x-ray machine for bags, a supposed walk-through metal detector, and two rent-a-cops playing charades. Why do I call fake?

-- There must have been 5000 people inside the musem, with a line of about 200 waiting at the door to clear "security". A real metal detector would have been going off every 20 seconds. This one went off not once while 200 of us went through. I myself was carring a camera, a large roll of keys, a pocketful of change, a Surefire flashlight, and a weapon the nature of which I will not disclose (not a firearm). I also have screws and a plate in one ankle that have set off numerous airport detectors by themselves -- not a peep from the "metal detector".

-- The "x-ray" machine was attended by one of the two rent-a-cops, feeding handbags and daypacks through one at a time -- and there was no monitor on the machine. That's right--there was no screen upon which to view contents!

-- Had either of these two devices been real, there is absolutely no way only 2 guys could handle all the further screening of people that would be required. 25 guys, maybe. 2, no way.

I am firmly convinced that, had I wanted, I could have carried an Uzi and a bagful of grenades in there with no one being the wiser. A 5 kilo block of plastique and a detonator would have been child's play.

Sheeple, sheeple -- wake up! Your government not only cannot protect you -- they don't care to even try.

Here's a link to a Winchester Mod. 6.........Looks similar to my Mod 1890

That is Model '06, as in 1906. Mechanically it is a Model 1890 except for a variable cartridge stop in the lifter that allows it to shoot .22 Short, Long & Long Rifle interchangeably instead of just a single specified cartridge like the 1890 did.

Likewise have heard everything from a .22 to a shotgun, and the reenactment with a simulated M-16 being shown. FWIW, really very little, national news was saying last night that he shot 3 rounds and security a total of 8.

After enough years as a LEO to retire, the best I will concede to the news media about this event is that someone was shot in/in the vicinity of the Holocaust Museum and that a security guard was killed. I won't make any bets whatsoever as to who did what to whom and with what based solely on television/radio/print news. Sound cynical? Just years of experience dealing with people who are more interested in FIRST and SPECTACULAR instead of ACCURATE reporting.

CNN is reporting the Winchester Model 6 was made between 1908 and 1928. The guard was just unlucky as he was wearing a vest but the shot missed the vest and entered under the collar bone.

C&R attack?

Maybe they are playing up the "old" age of the firearm to start an effort to close the "curio & relic loophole".

heard on the news tonight the shooter believed""quote"" the jews controlled Pres. Obama""end quote.!! I says to the wife...if he thinks the jewish leaders would be successful at controlling a fella with a name like Barrack Hussien Obama, well then he is mental!!!

So the shooter was Rev. Wright?

Every vest in use by LE is capable of stopping a .22 rim fire from a pistol or rifle. Obviously, the guard that was killed, if he was wearing a vest, was very unlucky to be hit in an area not covered by the vest. This happens all of the time in police shootings. The purpose of the vest is to reduce the odds of a round hitting a vital organ. It does not eliminate the chance that a bullet will enter the wearer.

The guards in this incident did their jobs well. They prevented that human turd from entering the museum and shooting innocent people who were just minding their own business. They should be commended.

In an incident that was captured by the museum's security cameras, he allegedly entered the building with a .22-caliber rifle and shot 39-year-old security guard Stephen T. Johns in the chest.

Investigators found three spent .22-caliber shell casings from von Brunn's rifle and 10 live rounds still in the weapon. The two guards apparently fired eight rounds from their .38-caliber revolvers. According to a federal law enforcement source, the rifle is a Winchester model that is at least 70 years old.

After all's said and done, the take away is?
A .22 or a .38 are dangerous as Hell to be shot with.
The earlier reports I heard said that the Falk 4 company guards were not wearing vests. I'm just grateful the museum was wise enough to pay the extra dough to have it an armed post! Most do not, alas? Yet another example of a firearm being around when needed and in the proper hands saving lives. You won't see the state run media bringing that point up any time soon!

My references show from 1906 through 1934. 1263 wer made the last year.
