Question for the experts. What kind of S&W would my dad have carried in Vietnam? All I know for sure is that he carried a 38 revolver and he said it was a S&W.

Also what were some other common S&W's used during the war times? Any pictures and input would be greatly appreciated. I am hoping to eventually be able to find a 38 similar to what my dad carried and buy it.

I've got a Model 15-3 dated 1970. The 15 with the 4" barrel was used extensively by US Air Force personnel. They were usually marked on the left frame just above the trigger with U.S.A.F. Mine would have been used during Vietnam. I was trained with one back in 1991 after we finished up with Desert Storm. The M1911 was also extensively used by the US Military.

It may have also been a WW II era .38 Victory Model, similar to the later model 10, a 4" barrel K frame .38 Special.

Well if it was a private purchase it wasn't purchased by my dad.

Thanks for all the postings.
