What wine to pair with fried cicadas? Best answer gets a Chien Noir hat.

Several people have suggested various forms of moonshine for the beverage but I find that good shine (or even bad shine) tends to rapidly numb the tongue blocking the delicate flavor of the insects.
I must also disagree with my learned colleague Rule 3 and say that, while he is correct on Boone's Farm, this meal cries out for the original Apple wine.
For a meal of cicadas, I would recommend serving on sterilized (heat over the fire) hubcaps for plates while using the hood of a 1969 Camaro as a table. Such meal should be served out doors in front of the house trailer.
Formal dress would be required, exempli gratia flip-flops, cutoffs, white tank tops (very tight for the ladies) and John Deere hats.
For music, I'm surprised that there is even a debate. It would have to be Lynyrd Skynyrd (Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd) Gold and Platinum.
Sidearms should be a choice between .357 Mag. Ruger Blackhawk or S&W Model 19. Load should be CCI Snakeshot as the dang copperheads living under the trailer can be a nuisance.

The fare calls for a white but...

I always prefer Boone's Farm Wild Mountain Grape with fried Cicadas. The Picante boquet compliments the slightly earthy flavor of the bugs.

1) Double Dog Dare Chardonnay (Cause it might take a Double Dog dare for the eatin' to start)
2) 14 Hands Chardonnay (might take that many hands to hold the unwilling participant down in order to be properly feed)
3) Happy Camper Chardonnay (Give them enough of this and they will eat anything!)

Attire: Gotta say - overall's, shirt optional... shoes optional..straw fedora...if no hat better break out the "Dapper Dan" and don't be ashamed to use it!
Protection: Well better make sure you have the Bass Pro Shops - FlyShooter handy...and for those larger varmits might as well have a M&P9 or a 686/627.
However you choose to enjoy your cicadas just remember when you enjoy this delicacy the word moderation should never ever come into play!

A smooth hand loaded ( homemade & bottled ), lite ( lite load ), with a lil bite (recoil) and enough for all to have a good time. They will be talking about it on face book and twitter for weeks to come and of course it will be all over our S&W Forum.
Absinthe and cicadas - the perfect mix! Just don't pull a VanGough and cut your own ear off while chowing down on the bugs... I'd leave the gun in the vault if we go down the absinthe road as well... Just sayin'.

Around here cicadas are served with a robust wine concoction called "Shake Um Up". Prepare as follows: Select your favorite fortified wine (MD, Hostess and Bone's work well). pour into a large container such as a discarded gallon milk carton. Add 2 or 3 jiggers (or to taste) grain alcohol. Add one or two bags of grape Kool Aid and then "Shake Um Up".
The attire for gentlemen should be cut off bib overalls sans shirt (a la Bruce on Swamp People). Shoes are optional.
Ladies will need nylon stretch pants and tube tops. Both of these ensembles will allow full view of your body art.
For music, nothing would be more fitting for such an occasion to honor those that could not attend by playing: "I fought the law and the law won", "Flosom Prison Blues", "I found Jesus on the Jailhouse floor" and everyone's "He's in the Jailhouse Now"
I should note that after a couple of "slugs" of Shake um UP your guest most likely won't see well enough to tell what anyone is wearing or hear the music anyway.

Music - anything by Alison Krauss, but don't forget to play Janis Ian's "I Learned the Truth at Seventeen" at least once during the evening.
Attire: Men should wear sub tropical, floral themed print shirts, untucked of course, over just past knee length khaki cargo shorts, along with sandals over either black or white socks depending on the formality of your occasion. Women should strive to display anything "perky" as per Caj's now infamous definition.
Protection: A S&W Governor - stuff your cargo shorts pockets with a mix of .45LC and .410 shotshells so you are covered whether the insects attack singly or en masse.

Attire-for men: White linen pants and Sperry topsiders with no socks, A horizontal striped navy blue and white boat-neck pull over shirt. Double breasted Navy blue blazer with a white silk hankie in the brest pocket.
Attire-for women: very short white shorts (ala Daisey Duke) and a very brief white top with cornflower blue polkadots that show lots of tummy and white flip-flops with cornflower blue toenail polish. (Under no circumstances may Crocks be worn)
Protection: Acme stainless steel wrist rocket w/3/8" ball bearings
I would think a light, hoppy, Pilsner would go just fine.

I'd suggest an Egyptian Cru des Ptolémées, a nice crisp white that goes well with both cicadas and locusts. Just ask Moses.

Id drink a light, but sweet Riesling wine. should off-set any bitterness LOL.

First, an apology to all for the delay in announcing the winners (suffice it to say that I was forced to spend most of the last 3 months assisting some extended family members with various problems, mostly out of state and then trying to get a complex cardiac arrythmia issue straightened out -- I did figure out that those folks who use those V-fib paddles to restore one to a normal sinus rythym think that shocking with a gazillion volts is a hoot - but I digress)
The panel of judges was duly convened: a possum, an armadillo and a skunk on a country road in Cameron Parish -- this august panel of judges spent the better part of two months making a decision while they lay around on said road, not moving very much and talking very little. After much deliberation, the judges announced a 9 -way tie:
Vytoland, rocketdog, Snubbyfan, Rule 3, Shouldazagged, Straightshooter 2, A10, Mc5aw, and Cwspook -- said gentlemen and epicureans are hereby kindly asked to send me a PM with their preferred mailing address so that prizes may be mailed.
Thanks to all who took part -- the judges remain mute on the final deciding criteria but assured me it was a very difficult decision. Hence, the 9-way tie.
