I am fixing prime rib for Christmas eve. I would like some suggestions for a wine to pair with it. I'm not a wine guy so I need some help. Not looking for anything too fancy but something that compliments the meat. Thanks.

A nice red, such as a Cabernet Sauvignon. Whatever your price range might be, you might trust your local wine store to recommend one, or perhaps google "Best Cabernet Sauvignon for under X $". If you look you can get a good one for $12 - $15 a bottle, lots of good ones out there.

I like all of the above suggestions.

I am not a wine guy — AKA “oenophiliac” :) — but like it a lot, and drink it regularly. Just don’t like it so much that I want to study it.

So, what works for me, if buying in a restaurant, or for a special occasion, I tell ‘em my budget and ask for suggestions. Works out pretty well.

If the guests are not regular red wine drinkers I would stay away from the
Cabernet Sauvignon and go with a Pinot Noir.
If your Prime Rib is heavily crusted with pepper then back to the
Cabernet Sauvignon
Lots of good options in the $15-20 price range.

Edit to add: My personal favorite would be an Old Vine Zinfandel.

I'd recommend the biggest Cardboardeaux you can find....I ain't fancy.
