What wine to serve with prime rib?

One of the best value Cabernet Sauvignons is Columbia Crest Grand Estates, about $10. CHATEAU STE MICHELLE CABERNET is another good one at about $12.

We used to bicycle out to Set Michelle Winery in Woodinville, WA, about 15 miles from our house. Nice Estate.
I bought a bottle of their Cabernet in 1970, when my Son was born. I opened the bottle, took a sip, and re corked it immediately. It was very "tart", un drinkably so. After a year, it was very good. They don't use that much Oak anymore. Such a shame!
They make a premium Cabernet called "Indian Wells", which I get from Safeway by the half case, for about $13 a bottle. Nice!
Another Columbia Valley Red that we like is "Firehouse Red" by Tamarack Cellars in Walla Walla, WA. It is available at COSTCO for about the same price as the "Indian Wells". A blend of mainly Merlot and Syrah.

Best,
Rick

Reunite' or Lancers Rose' either one is pretty darn with most everything. However Lancers is Portugese and is not easy to find. also Reunite Lambrusco isn't bad either.

Many years ago, I drank Lancer's and Mateus. I had a coworker who married a very famous department store owner and who knew the then-wine director at Neiman-Marcus well. She told me that Victor (the wine man) described Lancer's rose as "carbonated Lavoris."

I think he was a bit harsh, but as my wine knowledge grew, I understood his assessment of it.

I have some experience of Lambrusco, too, but will spare you my opinion, as it seems to satisfy you.

I'm not especially fond of Italian wines, although I'd like to try a suitably aged Barolo or Barbaresco if I ever have the opportunity.

I did try Valpolicella after reading about it in a David Lindsey crime novel. Okay for casual drinking, but I'd about as soon drink a good sangria (wine punch) like Yago's.

I've tried several examples of Chianti Classico, but none has the charm and complexity of a good red Bordeaux.

The girl who was my barber for years didn't like Bordeaux or other Cabernet or Merlot, but she was drinking them far too young.

Well, today cooked me up some steaks.:D

I decided to go with a local "Champagne"(can't really call it Champagne now, the French would slit their wrists in spite:rolleyes:).

It's one of my "go to" brands, made from local Bairrada region "baga" "black" grapes. It's called "blanc de noirs".

It was excellent. Both the steaks and the wine.:D
