What wine to serve with prime rib?

Don’t overlook blends. Most of the big name French wines are blends. There are some good American blends at decent prices. Ask the wine manager at your local bottle shop. Ecole No. 41 from Washington State is known for their blends. Not cheap, but you don’t need to take out a loan either. A less pricey, but decent blend is 14 Hands or something from Tamarack Cellars.

Another vote for a zin. Our favorite is called Earthquake. At the high end of our spectrum at around $25 a bottle, but hey, it is Christmas, and it is prime rib!

I've never had that one, I lwill look for it. If you can find any, Scott Harvey Wines makes some excellent Zins. Not sure on price currently but guessing $25-30.

Wines made with Cabernet Sauvignon grapes give me heartburn(I like drinking the wine though:rolleyes:) so, I'll go with the Burgundy(pinot noir).

And. Any good quality red wine goes well with steaks.

Brut Champgne is also a good option for grilled steaks.

What other people like doesn't count. At all, unless you're really trying to ask what other people will like. But keep in mind that you (I'm guessing here) don't really know what you like, so why should a bunch of strangers, with varying degrees of interest in wine, know what your dinner guests will like?

I believe that you got one suggestion that you get several different wines. Take it. Don't forget to include what you think or know you will like.

You should have asked what cartridge is best for bear. Less controversy, and fewer wise remarks.

P.S. Unlikely that your wine needs to come from any place other than California.

So... what do you think is the best wine for bear?

If you want a good wine ask someone who knows. [emoji1]

Speaking of Bear and Wine.
A while back my Buddy Milt dropped a Bruin up on the Apache Reservation, Dulce, NM.
He gave me some, I had Never eaten it or cooked it.
So I looked in my Game Cookbook.
Bear Sauerbraten? Why not!
So I mixed, Martinated, Cooked.
My Son who is an Asthmatic and allergic to a lot of things turned Beet Red!
Turns out, it was not the Bear Meat.
It was the Sulfite in the Red Wine I used in the Marinating.
So if the alcohol don’t get you, the additives might!

These days, I go with box wine. There is one called Black Box, and another whose name I forget that box up pretty good wine. I used to try to be a bit of a wine snob, but I don’t drink enough of it to keep up. I have even become such a cretin I might put ice cubes in my red wine. You can usually find a Cab, or a Shiraz or a Malbec. My wine-snobbish book club drinks it right down. The wine will keep in the box for a week or two, longer if you refrigerate it.
