What wood grips for my Model 10?

My Model 10 has a parkerized finish and came with a set of Pachmayr grips. I was thinking of swapping them out for wood target grips.
Any suggestions on what would look/feel nice and not break the bank?

It depends on what 'you' think would look and feel nice, but two places to look would be Ahrends and Hogue.

I would like the factory grips plus a brushed aluminum T grip.
It's hard to find these days
In your case, black t grips are easier to come by.

I don't shoot it a ton - so wasn't planning on spending a ton, maybe just some factory target style in wood.

I recommend you check out Altamonts. I put these on my Model 19.

You can also check out the accessories sales on this site. Pretty good selection if you are patient.

Have you looked on eBay? Lots of used S&W K frame grips for sale with various prices. I'm prone to S&W K frame target grips myself. I have them on almost all of my S&W revolvers.

I second the suggestion of factory or factory-style magna stocks with the addition of an old-fashioned grip adapter. Depending on your grip preference, either the Tyler/BK style with the finger swell or the straight Mershon/Pachmayr will work; the latter is more commonly found on originals. Gives the gun a classy look and works for little expense.

Pachs are great for shooting. That one isn't going to win any prizes with the "correctness" or "originality" crowd so why not shoot it as is?

I kept a similar M10 ex-cop gun in the kitchen drawer. I decided to clean it one day after several years in the drawer, removed the rubbers and found slight rust starting. The revolver now wears magnas, great shooting gun.

That's always been the knock on rubber grips. Since this one is Parked I don't know how much of an issue that would be. It might help to put some wax on the butt frame and on the insides of the grips.

Your model 10 is non-original , with a new utilitarian finish. The Pachmayrs you showed actually look pretty appropriate , and I know them to be good shooters.

That said , I am usually a wooden grip proponent. The repros suggested in #14 above would suit the situation nicely , I think. So would the Altamonts. I would not worry too much about getting factory grip panels ; it's not a restoration deal.

Kim Ahrend's Grips
Retro Target or Retro Combat in the Exotic wood of your choice .
The model 58 in my avatar has Ahrend's Retro Combats in dark red Cocobolo . Very reasonably priced and fit like the proverbial glove .
Check out his web site for offerings .

I'll second that. Those "Pachs" are good looking enough (I just hate anything with "fingergrooves" in it, unles it is a dedicated ISSF target pistol and the finger grooves are my finger grooves:rolleyes:) and they are comfortable. Don't spend any money that wont add one yotta of value to thst revolver. Just use it.:D

As Jack Flash said in his other post, make sure there is no rust developing under the grips. If there is, just neutralise it and protect the frame.

Edit. If the rubber grips do offend you very much. Do whatever you fancy. It is your revolver.:D

Check out Robertsons Trading Co. I got a pair of Herretts grips for my Mod. 10 at a good price.

I like these grips, I am thinking rosewood as opposed to the walnut - might integrate with the parkerized finish a little better.
I would like to suggest that regardless of the wood type that you select , rosewood is stunning , avoid any that say Laminate .

Laminate is fancy word for " Plywood" and laminate grips will never look as good as real , mother nature made , wood.
Altamont has some rosewood laminate and many solid "real" rosewood stocks , read carefully and go first class with real wood.
They may cost a few dollars more but they look so much nicer than laminate/plwood .
