Hi all,

I am new to this site. Kinda been out of guns for the last 20 years, but still have a few S&W guns.

I'm sure the prices on these guns have changed since 20 years ago so, i am out of the loop when it comes to used prices.

There is someone that wants to sell a 357. revolver in nickel finish with a 4" barrel, also has adjustable rear sight. Does not have the factory box. I would say this gun is a good 90 to 95% and only been fired about 18 times. I could not find a model number on the gun, just says 357 Mag. Almost looks like my model 10.

What would you think is a fair price on this gun would be?

Welcome to the forum. Not nearly enough information for anyone to throw out a number in dollars.

90-95% after only being fired 18 times sounds like a lot of abuse or poor storage. Really hard to say from just that description.

If nothing else give us a partial serial number (first 3 or 4 digits and then Xs). Someone will figure it out from there.

Dave

Hello, Sounds like a 4 inch model 19. If you open the cylinder and look on the crane it is circled in the picture below then it will tell you what it is. It will be like 19-3 or something similar. The second picture is a model 19 with 4" barrel. They are going for $500-700 depending on condition, box, paperwork, tools and area of the country.

That could be it. It was kinda dark and i am half blind anyways. He was flip flopping from $300 to $500. For $300 i would jump on them all day long.

If it says just 357 Magnum on the barrel, and no model # on the frame, is the top of the frame and barrel rib checkered? If so it could be a Pre-27. If so, the value of a 95% gun only fired 18 times could be well over $1000. You need to tie this down and get identified as there is quite a difference in value. Also on a long shot, open the cylinder and look on the frame and see if it says "Reg" and a #. If so, it is worth a heck of a lot more, up to $3500 - $5000 depending on exact condition grips, etc.

Another alternative is it could be a Combat Magnum from 1955-'57, before they were stamped MOD 19, in which case even $500 would be a steal.

I would guess this gun was made in the later 80's. The owner said he bought it new around 25 years ago. The front sight is red tipped.

Then you are more likely talking about a stamped model version of a 19, 27, or 28. Look on the crane as suggested before and let us know. The serial # will be on the butt of the gun, possibly under the grips, and would be helpful for dating. Pictures would tell a lot about the condition and value.

If i get it for a good price i will post up some pics.

Here it is.

It's a model 66-4.

It's a stainless model 19, so you were close on the ID :). Anywhere between $300-500 would have been a good price.

As has been stated before on this forum "I hope you wore a mask". This will probably get you a Best Deal Of The Day Award.
