? What year hand ejector

A friend just purchased a 38 sp, 5 screw, no model nu. , ser nu. B592xxx. Could someone help with year manufactured?

Is this the serial number from the bottom of the grip frame? A "B" serial number doesn't seem correct.

I agree a "B" prefix does not seem correct.

I cannot second guess any likely typographical errors for the "B" that makes any sense either. Please look at the bottom of the grip frame, i.e. the butt of the gun, for the serial #. Some grips will cover the number and you may have to remove the grips.

He probably got the serial number from the barrel flat; the B indicates it was originally a blue finish gun. The number itself points to a late 1920 decade shipped gun, which fits with the 5-screw frame. Having the same number on the bottom of the grip frame would also be nice :). Hope this is helpful.
 
As above, the B just indicates it left the factory with a blued finish. It was likely shipped in 1928. It's called the Military and Police (M&P) model.
