I just finished school, moved for work to Idaho, and finally have time to do the things I have missed for years now. This includes researching some of the guns my wife and I have. So, one of my curiosities that I have wanted to pursue is the year of our 39-2 9mm. The serial # starts with A201xxxx. How can I find out what year it is?

Welcome to the forum.

I think you have too many XXXX's in your serial number.

Having said that, if you meant A201xxx, the book says shipped in 1973 / 1974.

Enjoy!

I have just aquired a 39-2 with the ser# A303XXX. What year? But also where do you go to find this information. While it's great to have a place to get this information for one weapon, I would like to have this information at my disposal. Any information would be helpful, and appreciated!

Standard Catalog of S&W 3rd ed. (SCSW for short) by Supica and Nahas.

1976-1977 A295001 - A385000

Thank You very much for the information! Where can I buy that catalog? Any idea! I am close to Austin Tx. So if it's to be had, There's a good possibility!

Gotta love those nickeled ones! Two items of interest for me are the optional fully adjustable sight and the darker walnut of the grips on this one - something sometimes seen on the earlier Model 39 no dash.

Goony, When I got this weapon, the guy I got it from said it was his dads. And he said his dad was an FFL. He had it in his safe, and rarely shot it. Said it had had less than 200 rnds since 1986. I stripped it down and deep cleaned it. The Grips had some kind of gunk on 'em. When i cleaned them off, they came out light like normal. As far as dollar-value, I probably have too much in it( I traded a Sig P250 40S&W subcompact for it). But I couldn't sell or trade that Sig, so when this trade came along, I figured it would be easier to turn. Little did I know I would love this weapon. So we shall see. I want an M&P 40 or 9 compact to go with my M&P fullsize. maybe later.

39-2 production date

Hi everybody, I'm a newbie to the forum and have several S&W pistols. I've got a 9 mm 39-2 and a Bodyguard 380. Love them both.

One reason I'm drawn to S&W is that my dad lived and grew up in Westfield Mass. and worked at the Springfield Armory prior to joining the service during WWll once he turned 18.

I too would like to know how the age of my 9 mm. It is serial #689XXX. What year would it be?

Thanks and looking forward to being part of the forum.

Thanks for the info grif684. This appears to be a great site.

39-2 mfg date

hi there.i'm new to this forum but i was needing to see if i could find out the mfg date of a 39-2 that i recently got in a trade.the guy i got it from said he had just retired from the police force after 30 yrs of service which this gun had been his side arm the whole time but needed a smaller pistol to tote around with him so i traded him a charter arms off duty .38 spl and $50 for the 39-2 9mm.the s/n on it is A214xxx.can anyone help find out when this gun was made?

looking for the same type of info on this 39-2 Hopefully i can upload the pictures. The S/N is wierd though TCL4xxx or TOL4xxx? It's not blued but not Nickle plated. I'm assuming a Stainless Steel? A friend of mine is offering it to me but I don't know a fair price. He says it's NIB never fired with a reciept when his dad bought it. Was given to him as a gift and he isn't into guns. I'd like to know what it's worth and the year it was built. Thanks.
