A letter prefix would be good. Both a C and D serial numbered guns in that range should be model numbered, with the C429xxx being in the 1959 timeframe.
If it has no letter prefix, it's a prewar gun, but that's a bit early for any 2" barrel M&P's.
Is it possibly you have too many xxx's in your number above?
