Great shape. Barely a turn line. What's a fair asking price for a local deal with stock sights? I've been out of the game for a while

If that thing on the rear sight area works OK, I'd maybe go $900 and trade for some wood for the sight. That's a nice gun, but there are still a lot around. Put it in the classifieds here for $975, I'm sure it'll go after you drop it to $850. Don't expect much from a dealer/gun shop.

I didn’t see the red dot. If that’s a -5 and there’s no rear sight, chances of finding one are slim.

Hmmm...interesting revolver. I'm always pleasantly surprised when Forum members show up with revolvers that I've never seen before. The Product Code (101206) indicates this is a 6" blued Model 29 ca. 1984-1999, and the s/n (CAD1023) is for a 1995 manufacture. And if I'm not mistaken, the Spec Ord indicates a manufacture date of the 6th day of 1995. I looked through the SCSW 5th Ed. and couldn't find any references to a special product run (e.g. Lew Horton), commemoratives, or Performance Center release of a Model 29 that matches this example. The Mag-Na-Port quad porting was ordered by a previous owner (see the order/receipt for 3-14-1998?). This looks to be a Model 29-6 with standard Hogue grips and the top strap drilled and tapped. I would think it's value, if the RDO is operational, is somewhere near $900-$1K.

If I were selling it, I would expect to hear people asking for deductions re the Red Dot and the porting. In it's present condition, I would not be interested because of those two items. I could live with the issue Hogues, but would look to replace them with something that fit my hand and looked better.

It is exceptionally difficult to put an accurate price estimate on a modified firearm. If you were to find someone who wanted a Model 29 with porting and a red dot, they might be willing to go as high as $1000, but the trick is in finding someone who wants those modifications.

I have the original rear sight. No marks on the frame from the dot mount.

Thanks for the detailed info @Hawg Rider . It is indeed a -6 with the porting after the fact

Yeah, I figured the porting would be an issue for some.

Turns out the guy wasn't as interested as he thought. I offered it up way low to what's been suggested for value. Guess I need to go out and shoot it.
