What's everybody drinking tonight?

Before dinner, a Sapphire martini on the rocks. With dinner, a Summit Extra Pale Ale. This is my basic, usual choice for beer. It is nicely hoppy, without being overwhelming. I prefer it cold, but I can drink it almost warm, which says a lot for it.

For a change of pace, I will drink a Bell's Two Hearted if they have it, and sometimes Bell's Oberon.

I used to ride dirt bikes a lot with a bunch of guys from Colorado, where they can get pretty snooty about their micro-brews. Most of them will roll over on their home town brews to get Summit.

Lefty, how about Rheingold and Ballantyne?

Rheingold was popular in our home when I was a kid, Ballantine wasn't, I'm not sure why? An Uncle who was a longshoreman was known on the waterfront as "Paddy Rheingold" as a result of a dopey bartender who would remember your drink, but never remember your name. Years later as a young policeman, I met several bartenders who suffered the same form of amnesia. Those were the kind of joints I preferred to drink in, "where everybody forgets your name."

CHEERS; (pun intended)

Adult Beverage Tonight

A classic Manhatten: 4 to 1 ration of rye whiskey to sweet vermouth and heavy on the bitters. Then a pint of smoked brown ale (homebrewed). Two drinks is my limit.

Several glasses of Becker 2009 Reserve Cabernet. Pretty smooth, good tannins, dark fruit, had it with burgers off the grill.

Mrs. Ironhand and I visited a friend and had a few drinks. Jameson's whiskey and Killian's red beer, mostly. I'm currently finishing off a pint of Newcastle brown ale.

For St. Paddy's I drank a couple of Guinnesses, then switched to fizzy water while I ate corned beef and cabbage. On the way home, I stopped to see my boy where he tends bar. He very graciously bought me a Summit IPA, while Shelly had a Summit oatmeal stout.

Made a batch of agave wheat ale 2 weeks ago, and now I am enjoying the fruits of my labor. My best recipe so far, but then I say that with each brew I make.

Cheers!!
