whats good .22 lr ammo to use in my new m&p 15-22 sport?
Your best bet is to pick up a few different brands and try them out to see what feeds and fires best in your rifle.

As a starting point, most of us have had success with CCI Mini-Mags, Winchester Super-X and Federal HV Match ammo. Try any 22LR ammo that has a muzzle velocity of 1200 FPS or higher.

Good luck!

CCI AR Tactical runs smooth as butter. Even better than CCI Mini Mags.

It is made specifically for the 15-22. I run a bump fire setup and I can mag dump 14 mags in one session without a single glitch. Mini Mags are close but I will get the occasional glitch.

Running 800+ rnds/minute is demanding. Using the 15-22 as originally designed will work with almost any decent .22LR

Pretty much anything you can find.

Federal
Winchester
Aguila
CCI
Remington

i refuse to use thunderbolts. they are the only ammo i've found that i think might hurt my gun.
i would not take them for free.

Send them to me, I'll shoot them all day. They will NOT "hurt" your gun. That's ignorant internet nonsense.

i started a thread at THR. i got lots of personal horror stories from lots of people.
testimony from people i trust is not nonsense.

I just love internet statements like this. I hope they frighten others at the same experience level from buying whatever brand is being maligned. Then more will be available for those of us who know better.

In addition to other brands I've shot more than 5K Thunderbolts in the past year in my 15-22, 10/22s (I have six), Mark IIIs, and SR 22s. They don't lead barrels. They don't misfire any more than other brands in the same category. And I've never paid attention to them being dirty. I clean my guns when I'm done shooting.

Thunderbolts aren't my favorite ammo. But, when my favorite is not available and Thunderbolts are I find them perfectly acceptable.

Odds are the majority of those "personal horror stories" are simply people parroting what some other person has parroted from some other person. Thunderbolts, or any other ammo, "hurting" a 15-22 IS nonsense. Over the past 40+ years I have fired a million rounds of .22 LR and never found ANY brand to "hurt" any of well over a dozen firearms.

But, hey, if it makes you feel better to believe otherwise, have at it.
