Whats in your bug out bag?

I ain't going anywhere. In 33 years living here, there have been half a dozen "evacuations." Folks that went didn't do so well, folks that stayed put did better (Excepting Andrew in '92, and if you stayed put in downtown Miami, you did better than those who "bugged out"). All the "coastal evacuation" signs point people right here anyway. Joe

I have seen people make up two or three bags. One that would stay in your car which would be like a 24hr bag some food, water, first aid kit, knive and maybe some ammo. It's to get you home. At home a 72hr bag that you to take and run with. That kit would be like Ivan the Butcher truck kit. The last one would be be as much food, water, first aid, money, knives, ammo and guns that you can carry because you probabley won't be coming back.

My bug out bag--

- One forty-five caliber automatic
- Two boxes of ammunition
- Four days' concentrated emergency rations
- One drug issue containing antibiotics, morphine,
vitamin pills, pep pills, sleeping pills, tranquilizer pills
- One miniature combination Russian phrase book and Bible
- One hundred dollars in rubles
- One hundred dollars in gold
- Nine packs of chewing gum
- One issue of prophylactics
- Three lipsticks
- Three pair of nylon stockings.

Ain't ridin' no bomb....nowhere

I'm hunkering down.

But I do keep a rifle in my car and truck all the time. Can't really get the wife to go for a rifle in her mini van. I need to give it a closer look. It's got lots of little storage spots. Maybe an under folder?

Вы выбрали мудро, кузнечик.

According to Doomsday Preppers I am sorely under prepared.

I don't have a bag per se, but instead a waterproof and airtight marine case I can carry.

I have a decent first aid kit, flashlight, water filter, water bottle, two knives, .38 Special ammo, a wool blanket, small tarp that can be rolled up like a swag, warm clothing, gloves, my Lyman 310 reloading outfit so I can load more ammo, my Model 27 Smith, compass, matches, lighter, and several other necessities here and there.

From what I was always told by a guy who has taken many survival courses, you will never have enough and you are always likely to forget something.

A sewing kit is nice to have. Gear and clothes tend to get damaged or need a quick repair when you least expect it. Gorilla tape or duct tape is useful...but only goes so far.

I have a pair of combat life saver bags. One is the Army version and the other is the Marine version. There are a few differences but in both cases you have hemostatic agents and tourniquettes.

Good old foil is nice to have too. Helps for roastong things, making a crude oil lamp, lining your hat etc.

Oh and Zantac....FEMA rice and beans can be nasty.

Tobacco and rolling papers and/or a pipe is nice too.

What it usually boils down to is -
Knife
cordage
water container
Light source
means to purify water
something to assist in having shelter - ie a poncho
