What's it like where you live?

East Tennessee - Cuisine is flap jacks, deep fried twinkies and fudge.
Home of the neck tattoo, big women with hip huggers, thongs, Snuggies and Crocs.

This is where the unsophisticated come to vacation. Orlando for those who can't afford to really go to Orlando. Our claim to fame is a country music queen with too many bad facelifts (she's starting to look like the Joker from Batman).

The mountains are spectacular!

Gee, if you don't like us, why don't you move somewhere else!! We got along fine before, without you......

Here's the view from the top of Medicine Bow Peak, just west of where I live. Elevation is about 13,000 feet:

'Course, there's a little more snow up there right now.

That's beautiful. I've only been to Wy. once in "88 and loved it. Places that stood out were around Wind River area, the Cody Museum, Southpass City, The saloon in Atlantic City, and the stiffest Seven &Sevens at a airport restaurant in Thermopolis. Stayed in the Round Top Motel right below the airport. Woke up hung over watching Gene Autry westerns. BTW. I got a nose bleed looking at your picture.

I used to work in the tetons. There was a rough ancient old cowboy from the area that I worked with. I remember him looking at the top and saying, "How would ja like ta be up thar with nutthing on but hat, necktie, and a pair of spurs?"

None of those places are the real Virginia. This is the real Virginia--Floyd County, AKA God's Country:

spent a few days last fall in Woolwine VA,

had a great stay at a very nice B&B (mountian rose inn)

also had a really good dinner at a place in floyd, but can't remember the name, live music was good too,

great wineries and some really good cider in that area,

(and I'm sure the shine is good too!:D)

Millbilly, Don't forget the Beans man, rows and rows of Beans, Corn and Beans or Beans and Corn for miles and miles.

I live less than an hour drive from a Cascade Crest Trail Head running from Canada to Mexico. On a clear day I can see top part of Three Finger Jack

from my barn. A few miles away I can see the west side of Three Sisters.

Looks nice in pictures, but it's really a giant tourist trap now, much like Panama City... Frankly you got hotels, condos, strip malls, a few amusement parks.. nothing really of interest as far as nature or scenic areas.
Hoping to move from this state in another month or two, tired of the Ocean after 16 years :\

Seems kind of lame for me to post here without pics, but all I have is the crappy cell phone camera!

Here are some google pics:

I can tell you a bit about RI and the New England area. We have all four seasons. Almost Winter, Winter, Still Winter, and Road work!!!

Just kidding. The change of seasons is dramatic here. Autumn is in a word, spectacular. The summers are mostly just right, and the winters not too bad. It varies year to year. In my home state of RI (the smallest state) we have a little bit of everything. City life with all the stuff people like in cities, a great deal of suburban/ residential area, and more rural area than one would expect.

We are called the ocean state because we have quite a bit of coastline including Narragansett Bay. Boating, fishing, etc. is a big part of what goes on around here. There are many quaint little towns that go waaaaay back. Many established in the 1600s, and some earlier than that. Tons of history here.

This goes for much of New England. I don't like cities at all. Having done my FD career there, I know what evil lurks just under the surface. I prefer wide open spaces. Traveling north to MA, (west for CT),NH,VT,and ME is a snap. You can get from here to the tip of Maine in about 4 or 5 hours. The rustic beauty of New England cannot be described. you have to experience it.

New England is my home, and always will be. I would love to visit all of the beautiful places that have been posted here, and I have visited a few, but I will always return here.

One of the great advantages to living in RI as a shooter is that there are at least a dozen shooting ranges available within a short distance. Indoor and outdoor, so the weather doesn't slow us down. The firearm laws are reasonable because we shooters are very vocal when anti-gun bills rear their ugly heads. We let the state legislature know exactly where we stand. That is the advantage of a small state. They count on every vote to keep their jobs and we know it!
