Whats the best bar/saloon you've been in?

The talent mentioned at Jason's in Windsor Ontario . Was some of the best looking French Canadian dancers you ever saw.
And yes Sloppy Joes was Hemingway's old hangout and still A fun place

The "short" list from my travels...
Ft. Worth, TX - Gilly's
New Orleans, LA - Pat O'Brians
Pensacola, FL - McGuire's Irish Pub
Nashville, TN - McNamara's Irish Pub
Great Falls, MT - Celtic Cowboy
Grand Forks, ND - O'Really's Irish Pub (anybody notice a trend?)
Little Rock, AR - Juanita's (despite the name they have Celtic music)
Orlando, FL - Howl at the Moon
Gatlinburg, TN - Gatlinburg Barrelhouse

Been to those two - really great choices! :)

A Russian bar in Athens, Greece. When we quit buying the girls "lady drinks" (orange juice) and got up to leave they yelled **** YOU!

I don't know how I forgot about it (age maybe?) but my all time favorite bar: the Condor Club on Broadway downtown San Francisco. Coincidentally, my first visit was the same day as the ending of my 2nd senior trip to SE Asia and my short career in the US Army....17APR69.

Google "carol doda Condor club" and you can find out all you need to know. Four of us flagged a cab outside the Oakland army terminal. He advised that we should hit a clothing store prior to going to downtown SF. He stopped for us to "shop" and then took us downtown.

Yep, that's it.........my favorite bar in the US. Now if you ever get to Amsterdam, you cannot pass up Suzie's Saloon!

2 on my list: The High Country, Chama, New Mexico, we were coming thru town headed into Colorado on a Friday night, starving. Stopped here to eat, restaurant was full and the hostess said we could wait in the bar, sooo the city slicker couple opens the swinging doors to the bar and 20+ cowboy hats turned our way....hmmm, awkward. Took a seat near the door and then in a few minutes were called to our table. Cool place

Second...the Red Bar, Grayton Beach, Florida, cool funky place. Great spot to spend an evening!

You should have walked down the street (I use that term loosely) to the "Howling Dog", no tourists. That place brings back memories.:D

These days the only Howling Dog is in Fox across from the brewery which would be a very long walk. The Dog was the only place I ever saw a woman with her pit hair braided into cornrows.

25 or so years ago, me and some buddies went to the NLF draft and stayed at the Marriott Marquis in New York. Tried to get Chris Berman to have a drink with us but that's another story.

Now keep in mind this is four boys from the south that had never been to the big city.

Anywho, ended up at a bar called Cafe Iguana. Anyone here remember the place?

Interesting night to say the least...

Louisville had a classic old bar/dance hall named Dew Drop Inn, famous for 50cent drink nights on Tuesday and Thursday back in the 1970s. Had a huge hardwood dance floor complete with mirror balls and a tight house band, Wayne Story and the Inn Keepers.

The tag line on radio ads was the dance floor was:

Gigantic like the Atlantic
Terrific like the Pacific
Cool as the breeze off of Lake Louise

Dew Drop closed down in the late 90s and last I heard it was a gay bar catering to lesbians.

I find myself at Kahunnaville inside the Treasure Island Casino in Vegas fairly often. I also like the bar inside the Bourbon Orleans Hotel in New Orleans.

I spent many a weekend in the White Elephant in the Ft. Worth Stockyards. Most of the time with my family (Dad, Mom, Aunts, Uncles and so on) Met a few musicians before and after the performed at Billy Bobs. Back then it was good music, good people and pretty friendly. Not sure about now since I have been gone from Texas for so long.

It has not changed... good choice!

Silver Dollar Bar in the Wort Hotel, Jackson Hole WY. The Rancher in Jackson Hole was a great old time cowboy bar but it's been gone for a long time. In my younger days we use to make the trinagle in Jackson; Cowboy to the Rancher to the Silver Dollar and back again. Some great times!

In Baltimore, there is a waterfront community called Fell's Point. It's the oldest part of the city, right on the harbor, just east of downtown. The streets are paved with Belgian Blocks that were used as ballast in cargo-carrying sailing ships, and it's chock-full of funky bars and bistros.

I have been going to Bertha's for more than 40 years. Ledbetters, the Wharf Rat, The Horse You Came In On, The Cat's Eye, Kooper's, and Duda's are also all great places, with a wide beer selection and good menu.

Hands down… Dick Mack's in Dingle Ireland. Best Irish Whiskey selection in the world.

The Water Wheel Bar in Milford Pa. It is a real local bar located in the stone basement of an old mill, complete with a fireplace and live jazz on Thursday nights.
Runner up: Krough's Brew Pub, Lake Mohawk NJ

Bear Spring Mountain Inn--In the Catskill Mountains.. Came home from work one day (1984) and found a notice on my front door saying if I enter I would be arrested (wife filed for divorce while I was working) So, I knew the owner of the Inn, knocked on his door and said, Mick I need a place to live. BEST TIME OF MY LIFE :D:D

These days the only Howling Dog is in Fox across from the brewery which would be a very long walk. The Dog was the only place I ever saw a woman with her pit hair braided into cornrows.

Things have changed since '74, I rented a cabin for a while just up the hill from the Dog. This was during a TDY visit to Wainwright.
