I've been trying to locate an Army buddy from 1966/67.
He's completely off the radar. I've tried white pages, military.com, several other veterans sites all to no avail. He has an unusual surname, Starine (possibly Starrine). All info I have is that he served in the 4th USASATC&S at Asmara Ethiopia and transfered from there to an unknown station in Viet Nam circa 1968. Approximately 63 yrs old now.
Thanks,

Thanks Sip. No results from that site or any of the sites they recommend. I wonder if he has passed away? His name is not on the Viet Nam memorial wall.

Check the Social Security Death Index to find out if he is deceased. You can Google the SSDI and turn up several links.

Would it show on the soc sec site if he died BEFORE he would have retired? I kind of doubt it.

I've had good luck with Intelius. You will have to pay a fee to get the information but it has always been spot on.

Good luck in your search.

Bruce

Sadly, your suggestion yielded a result. DOB and state of residence check out. Died in June 1972, only 25 years old. :(

Has only reconnected on classmates site. I have gotten reaquainted with a few friends including who hated me for years because of an insult that I apologized 27 years after. I was just surprised that I was her first love and broke her heart so she did like the apology. Beautiful little red headed gal. In 1982 I called her flat and glowing because she was not breasty and still is red headed while I am graying. Lovely lady who accepted the apology. Stupid me was insulting instead of trying to hit a home run. I also have a few funny pics of me with friends from high school...I look so dorky.

I used Zaba search to find a friend with a somewhat unusual last name. He stopped writing after entering the Marine Corp in 1965. His family had left town and I had no leads. We were on a state championship team that was going to honored so I wanted to make sure he was invited. It is easier if you know what state he is likely to be living in but you can do each state one at a time if you want to. I found him in California. There were only three people with his first and last name and I got lucky on the first try. He came back for the awards ceremony. Great to see him after 40 years. Zaba is free. Good luck.

( I missed your post where you found your friend was deceased. I"m sorry for your loss. )

You can go to spokeo.com to do a nationwide search to find the state. Then drill down to the state and city. I have used this site a lot and it gives good results even when the last name is Carter, Smith or Brown. Gives age, phone number, and street but not street number. Go to zabasearch.com for the street number.

Thanks to everyone. I'm not being morbid but I'm curious about his cause of death at such an early age. There are lots of sites that say they can provide death records but they all want my credit card info, which I'm paranoid about.
Anyway to access death certificates from the state of Michigan?

Generally death certificates are not available to the public unless you are a family member or have some legal connection to the deceased such as having his power of attorney. However every state differs in this regard.

I would contact a public library near where he was living when he died and ask if they have copies of obituaries. Most large libraries have somebody assigned to work with people doing genealogy, and this is the person you will want to contact. They can often give you tips on getting the information you are after. Also newspapers sometimes have on line copies of their past issues. If the obit doesn't list a cause of death, it will probably list next of kin. I would track down some of those relatives and give them a call.

Just to finalize this thread, I was able to locate Davids brother in Michigan. In 1972 Dave had been married for a couple of months. He was on his way home from a relatives wedding. There was a car accident. Dave was thrown from the car and ruptured an aorta.
His family was very nice and seemed genuinely glad to hear from me.
Thanks again to all who helped.
