Could someone tell me the proper way to oil the bolt and slide when cleaning? I've only cleaned once and want to make sure I did it right. Trying to get gun broke in. Still having occassional fte with cci mini mags and the recommended ammo. Thank you.

You just need a drop or two of oil on the rails. If you are having failures to eject, be sure the ejector is running close to the bolt. Mine required a little tweak to cure it"s FTE problems.

I put one or two drops of oil on each rail, a drop on the recoil spring guide, a drop on the extractor hinge and wipe a little on the underside of the bolt where the ejector will rub against. Then I work the bolt back and forth a couple of times.

Tweaked? Please explain.
The ejector should almost rub the bottom of the bolt in order to eject reliably. For whatever reason, some, straight from the factory, do not.

So, to fix the failure to extract problems, you can send it back to S&W or bend (tweak) the ejector closer to the bolt yourself.

Personally, I think S&W should fix every one they ship that's not perfect.

So looking down from the bottom where the magazine goes it should almost rub the bottom of the slot in the bolt? Everyone keeps telling me that the gun isn't broke in yet and to keep running the good ammo through it and that the bolt will loosen up and quit jamming. It doesn't do it all the time. I think I had 3 or 4 stovepipes out of 300 rounds this weekend. 2 with cci mini mag hp and 2 with Winchester super X. Tried golden bullets and federal automatch and it jams like a muther with those. So it seems that it's not totally ejector problem since its better with some ammo.

This is the tweak that is spoken of...

However it is at your discretion as to whether your rifle has this problem and if you want to try this fix....but this is the tweak.

Ok thanks. I don't think mine has that condition since it shoots cci and aguila better. Probably just a break in issue. I will keep shooting and see.

First thing I would do is make sure the bolt face & the breech face are perfectly clean. The breech face has lots of nooks & crannies, so you probably will need some picks. If you have the tools to remove the barrel, that makes it much easier to clean the breech. Intent here is to ensure the bolt, with extractor, is making proper contact with the breech face... and of course the rim of the ammo.

The bolt should need no break in, IMO. Do a basic break down of the bolt (don't drive out any pins) and when you remove the spring & rod, the bolt should slide very smoothly down the rails. Clean it all & then wipe mostly dry. Add a few drops of lubricant on the rails and you are done.

If you still have issues, might want to change out to the new extractor from Volquartsen. Can't hurt & doesn't cost much. If that doesn't work you can try tweaking the ejector, but that can be hit or miss. I do everything in my power to not mess with my ejector, so if I was still having issues at this point, I'd send it to S&W.

Have had mine for a few years & I don't oil the bolt. I just give it a good cleaning w/ clp & dry it with a rag. Have had no issues.

Ok thanks guys. I will clean it again before firing it. Just going by what I've heard about breaking in the gun. 2 different reputable gun stores said that the higher velocity ammo is loaded hot enough to work the bolt and eject the casing. They both said it should get better after it loosens up. I may have to always use the better ammo. I just bought 1000 rounds of the aguila super extra high velocity from the lgs. Im gonna use some more of it through since it was the first brand of 150 rounds that was fired. When the rifle was new I fired 150 of those without any issues. Id just like to eventually be able to plink with bulk ammo.

The 15-22 does not require super high velocity ammo... or high velocity for that matter. Many of us mainly shoot subsonic ammo & the gun functions flawlessly. Just make sure the bolt glides smoothly over the rails & that there is no burr or obstruction. It doesn't take a huge bang to make the bolt slide rearward.

Do the ejector tweak. I moved mine a very small amount and it now ejects every time. Nothing is 100% certain of course, but you won't hurt it by tweaking that ejector slightly closer to the bolt. If it solves the problem, great. If not, no harm done.

Can you guys clarify how close your pin is to the bolt ?
Is it touching the bolt or is there a gap between the pin & bolt ?

I tweaked my ejector upward till it almost touches the bolt. Since ive fired several hundred rounds of various ammo without issues even the golden bullets.

I agree...its a long standing issue and S&W has chosen not to address it when the guns are manufactured. My feeling is they fix it. I'm not sure they even test fire each one. The customer service guy that sent me the RMA label said they would test fire it before returning to me. He said they get about 2 a week coming back

Im glad I didn't send mine back to S&W to get fixed. It took me just few minutes to get it fixed when I finally figured out which way I needed to tweak it. Would have sucked to wait 2 weeks for that to get fixed. Now im blowing through ammo and enjoy shooting my gun.
