What's the difference between a 14 and 15 ?

It's possible, I jotted this list from memory and seemed to remember the 2" guns having the PC grips. As to fixed sight only, I know that's not correct, since many of the Dayton M14's had the PC's on them. Those guns were available with just about anything S&W had at the time, PC magnas, standard magnas, Targets.

I like pictures ,,so here is a 5 in. Masterpiece from 1957 ,K302808 one of the Illinois state police guns.

Check out the wear on the 'outside' stock panel from being carried in a holster for years.

And a 14-2 Dayton police supply gun , complete with p.c. magnas numbered to the gun.

There ,,now that Partridge isn't the only picture on this thread!

You are right about the 2" 15. I forgot about that. I have seen them with PCs and with square-bottomed magnas as well. I guess they used what they had.

Here's some of the exceptions....

Tapered barrels on early narrow rib Masterpieces

M15-7 - RB and straight barrel (no taper)

Four inch M14-6 (Performance Center assembled, Roper Police Supply model)

Dayton Police Supply M14-2 with extra heavy (M&P) barrel:

Round butt gripframe, MIM parts on a M14-7

Three inch M15 - pure cool.... (not mine, unfortunately)

That 3" 15 IS cool! It looks like a 3 1/2" 27 in miniature! And a pinto yet and smooth magnas! WOW!!

Did not see this thread first time around.

I love the 3 inch Model 15. I could do w/o the pinto effect, however.

Compared to all the other 3" M15's you see out there, this one is striking and different, no?

I am the proud owner of 16 S&Ws. Yes I do own a model 14. It is the most accurate revolver I own including all my semi-auto's. 148 gr. Speer & 3.0 WW 231 will do 1'' at 25 yards. I love all the older Smiths.......Pete
