I have a LOT of double action revolvers, mostly S&Ws, but also a few Colts, including a Python. I was musing today on which of these have the smoothest action for double action shooting. At any rate, the smooth feel of this one is incredible, and it easily takes first place.

This is an S&W 625 Model of 1988, with some custom modifications. It sports a red ramped front sight, a traditional cylinder release, and round-to-square butt Ahrends conversion stocks. But the best thing I did on this gun was to treat it to a class A action job by Nelson Ford in Phoenix. Nelson is an old pro on doing S&Ws, and this job was simply outstanding. The action is totally smooth and light; an overtravel stop was installed on the trigger, and the trigger itself was smoothed. Second place had to go to the Python, but this is far and away the best of all. Although the trigger pull is light, I've never had a misfire with any .45 ACP ammo, including stock military rounds.

How about you? Whatcha got that has an exceptional action - any brand?

Believe it or not, my 29-2. It's like butter! I acquired it from another member here so really don't know what if any work it's had. I can tell you though it has the best feeling double action trigger I've ever experienced!

Interestingly, the best DA trigger pull I have tried was on a stock model 65 Lady Smith. I don't know if they received extra attention at assembly and fitting but this one was exceptional.

After I cleaned up the extractor burrs. My 625-3 was the best trigger ever... and as I mentioned in another thread, I got stupid and sold it.

My best remaining is a 13-3...

While they don't fit in this category of the forum, its a toss up between my Registered Magnum and an early 38/44 Outdoorsman. The Reg Magnum is below, I can't seem to find a photo of the Outdoorsman. The Outdoorsman has a double cockeyed hammer, not King marked, and I suspect that it had an action job when that hammer was installed.

I have a straight out-of-the-box (Pictured) Model 14-5 that is fantastic. The only one I have with sweeter action is another 14-5 that already had action work done before I purchased it.

While I own several S&W X-frames with very nice actions, the best I ever experienced was a Janz.

Can't explain why, I bought the gun brand new and never had anyone do any work to it, but I have a 629-5 that's smooth as silk. In second place is a 66-4 that I suspect has had work done.

I have two that are about equal. First is my Md 681 and the other is a Model 64-4. Neither have had any work. They are fantastic!

Three I can think of....

A 1980 vintage 57 4" that had the hammer and trigger repleaced as I had shot the orignnals to death...smith who put in the new ones did a very nice job...

Second would be a customized 58 that was done at a shop in Boise, Idaho...very slick..

Last would be a 625-7 PC .45 ACP 5"...best factory trigger on a Smith I have pulled...

Decades ago, when PPC started doing SNUBBY Matches, I had Walt Sherman do his roller bearing action job to a 2 1/2" Ultimate Stainless Colt Python.

The DA trigger pull has no friction in it. The pull is under 6 pounds and reliable. It is so smooth it is hard to describe

However one of the LTs that I worked with at the time came pretty close to putting it into words. He said the trigger pull was like "pulling a hot knife through warm butter"
