What's with Apex parts?

I'm not exactly new to M&P pistols. I had an M&P9c a couple of years ago, but decided that I needed to trade it for a Glock 19. It was a decision that I regretted almost immediately because I shot the 9c very well and loved the pistol. Well now I have been fortunate enough to get another one and will not let this one get away, ever. My question is, what's with people replacing stock parts with Apex parts? What parts are most commonly replaced and are stock S&W parts inferior or insufficient in some way? Do Apex parts improve performance enough to justify replacing stock parts? I've never had a failure of any kind with my present or past 9c so I'm just wondering. Thanks for the input.

There was nothing wrong with my trigger. I just wanted a shorter, lighter pull and quicker reset. I love that I get no shake when I pull the trigger now. It just improves performance, like after market parts for your car. My car didnt need a twin turbo, but holy **** its fun... If your in Jersey you can try mine and compare it to the original..

the Apex eliminates the over travel of the trigger, which caused me to shoot low..
Now its a strait, clean shooter.

Apex is all about improving the trigger in your gun, not necessarily for reliability but for smoothness, travel, and pressure required to fire. If you are happy with feel and pull of your trigger then there is no reason to send Apex money.

But it seems the majority of M&P owners are not happy so they buy either the Competition Action Enhancement Kit for a 3# trigger or the Duty/Carry Action Enhancement Kit for a 5-6# pull.

There is no need to change. The M&P's are a great gun right out of the box. I have 4 of them and can't say one thing bad about any of them. Why then did I put APEX in some of them? To improve the action. Lighter trigger pull enhances accuracy. Better accuracy enhances use of the gun for competition and self defense. Best reasons ever. Every gun is capable of performing better, just like any car can be made to perform better. A matter of preference more than anything.

+1. All of my M&P's have performed flawlessly right out of the box. My 40C had a fantastic trigger, but the 9C and 45C were less than stellar. An ultimate striker block and hard sear from Apex transformed the triggers of both pistols making them much more enjoyable to shoot.

Thanks for all the input folks. It's been very helpful. I'm completely satisfied with the factory trigger and shoot it really well, so I doubt that I'll spring for the Apex stuff. Take care all.

I'm new to pistol shooting and just picked up an M&P9 full size back in November. Not knowing the M&P's trigger from any other, I thought the trigger feel was normal. After reading all the rave reviews from people that install the APEX parts, I just had to give it a try.

Purchased an APEX DCAEK kit, installed it myself after viewing the YouTube videos several times, paying special attention to the safety/operational checks for each step. I'm mechanically inclined, but never took a gun apart before. It was very easy to install if you have the proper tools and took me about 1/2 hour. Went to the range for the first time today and put about 200 rounds through.

All I can say is that the trigger is like butter now and I just didn't realize how rough it was... The trigger is now smooth and predictable. If I pick up another M&P, it'll be my first purchase.

This. I put a DCAEK in my 9FS. For Christmas, I bought myself a 5" 9 Pro and even with the perfomance center parts, I already have another DCAEK on order for it.

I did the DIY, and love the result...... Im not a gunsmith

My 45 compact did need the work

My "Massachusetts Compliant" trigger weighed in at 12lbs 6oz out of the box. After 300 rounds this weekend and about 300 dry fires (and a wicked sore trigger finger) it's still at 10lbs. Buying the Apex next payday!

You will love the difference in the gun with the Apex kit installed.

For those people that have experience with a match grade trigger" No explanation is necessary" To those people that have never tried a firearm with a match trigger "No explanation is possible" You need to find someone that has a pistol with a trigger job or a match pistol and actually try it! Once you have done this you will probably never have a pistol with a stock trigger again!
