What's your best value scope mount?

fOUND I think you need to limit your question to some degree. The newer revolvers are drilled and tapped for scope mounts and that makes things pretty easy. The older guns are not drilled and tapped and in my case that has turned into a problem. I have a 5 screw K17 that I shoot a lot. I had a scope mount on it that attached to the sideplate screw holes. Great idea and it worked for a while - and then it bent. Aluminum you see. So now I am still looking for a good way to mount a scope on my K17. I thought this sideplate mounted scope mount was a great value but it turns out I was wrong. I am still looking for a good way to mount the scope without modifying the gun. That would be a great value to me. Anybody got any suggestions?

I bought my 629-3 with 6.5" barrel while it was mounted with a Leupold base and rings and a Simmons 2-7X scope. I found the mount base and rings to be VERY heavy for handgun use. The 629 is pre-drilled at the factory so this is a "screw on". Use Loctite blue on the screws.

I started researching the bases available and found Weaver has a base that is very low, drops right in place and is cheap, like $8 from the on line discounters. Using a set of basic low mount Weaver rings I must have taken at least 1/3 pound off the weight of the gun. Photo's show the Leupold mount with the scope and the Weavers with the optic. The Weaver base is an excellent/inexpensive choice.

I use the B square to see what ammo shoots the best in each gun. I tape the bbl where it clamps on so I don't goof up the finish. After shooting it I put the adjustable sights back on. Nice mount. Larry

The Weaver also hooks behind the top strap and has a small extension into the sight area but I think the three oval headed screws will provide more than sufficient holding power against how much powder you can cram into a .44 case.

The Weigand mount also has a recoil lug. It's three screws also bolt down solidly rather than just flexing the base as they're tightened.

The Weaver mount will "walk around" as you'll see from the marks it will leave on your top strap.

Thanks to all for the help The Weigand needs holes drilled so that is not an option. I'm going to try to find a Weaver 307 somewhere. Seems like not too many choices.
