Just wondering whether the consensus is handgun or long gun.

Handgun. It is too easy to wrest control of a long gun in hallways. It is easier to maintain control of a handgun.

All my defensive handguns are 38 double action revolvers, the type I have shot most over the years. I am going to depend on my training and experience so I have fewer variables to deal with in a confrontation. All are concealed in the house but readily available to me if needed.

Something to consider: many of us live in states that have "safe storage" laws. The law was just toughened here in the People's Republik with the goal in mind of keeping firearms away from undisciplined kids (don't tell me your kids are perfectly disciplined, the child or adolescent brain is driven by impulse before reasoning).

I have multiple single-gun safes around the house with no guns ever left out in the open.

Ar-15 30 round mag pressure switch tac light and pressure switch green dot laser. It's within arms reach of where i sleep.

My .45 to get me to my Stevens 67. I most likely will make it to the shotgun before any intruder would to reach me due to the set-up of my apartment. On nights when things seem to be alittle rowdy in my neighbourhood, the Stevens goes in the corner at the foot of my bed.
