What's your S&W Holy Grail Gun and why

A few years ago I was on a hunt for my dad's grail gun - his duty gun (.38/44) when he was with Austin PD. I contacted APD and unfortunately they no longer have records of which guns were issued to which officers and he doesn't remember what the number was on his. A short lived quest

He still wants to get an APD marked .38/44 but they command way too much $$$.

For me my favorite Smith and grail gun was a M29 4-inch barrel. While not a rare or really expensive gun, they are just not around here. Every tim I tried bidding on one, I would get outbid at the last minute, so after a very long time of searching (the last one I had seen in person in my area was 1997). I had owned a 6-inch version, but it just didn't seem to have that "feel". Over the last three weeks I learned that one of my Sargeants at work had one, in the 4-inch barrel. I made him an offer, he actually came down $50 since he knew how much I wanted the gun, and as I have posted in the last few days, I now have my 29 4-inch barrel. Now if in Octoner of this year I can get a whitetail buck to walk in front of those sights, I will be a very happy man.

I understand your interest. I've been looking off and on for about 7 years for a 29-2 in 4". Several years ago I had a 6 1/2" 29-? and a 4" that I think was hard chromed. I sold them both to buy other guns for my son (no regrets) but I have missed having a 29-2 ever since. I have a 629 Mtn. Gun but it is not the same.

I would have to say a 3 1/2" Registered Magnum, blued, with sights to be determined later. Two sets of stocks (one in ivory) worthy of this pistol would be part of the deal.

Other contenders would be one each, unfired, blued, 4" M21 & M24. If I could have ordered special sights back then, I would.

These would become my carry wheelguns.

Without doubt a registered magnum, nickel 3 1/2", or a M27, same config, the most beautifull revolver all time if u ask me and NONE excist in Sweden

I have recently with articles, pictures, and threads decided to want an old Pre Model 25.
I should like it presentable but having been shot enough to know what shoots the best in it by someone who has shot it.

The M57 4" that belonged to Bill Jordan and was featured in his book "No Second Place Winner". It came up for auction in the Rex Applegate estate sale about 2001 and I had the chance to bid on it and passed. Gun Writer Leroy Thompson now owns the gun and I have kicked myself ever since.

Model 26 45 colt. One of the 40 or so that were extra and unadorned.

I'm a big fan of K-Framed Snubbies in general....I really love them all, but if I had 10 2" Model 15 Combat Masterpieces, I'd want one more....Zebulon

I'm not going to use the term "grail" because to be quite frank, i'm not as versed as you guys when it comes to "collectibility." My thing is, if I see something I like, then I try to get it in reason.

I guess you could say i've been a bit lucky with a few of my purchases. Recently acquired a 24-3 3" and a 624 3". I also got a great deal on a 29-2 4" 2 years ago. I'm trying not to fall into the "I gotta get this for the collection" attitude. If I stumble upon something that's reasonably priced, then i'll consider it.

My holy grail gun was the 27-2 with a 3.5" barrel. I thought that it was the coolest gun ever. Then one day, I got a phone call from a friend stating that he had found one for me. I could not be happier with this purchase.

It was brand new. Only fired by the factory. Diamond grips. Wow!!!

Here are a couple of pics....

For me it would be a blue .44 Triple Lock with a 5" barrel in excellent condition.
Its a grail gun because even if I found it, I'd never be able to afford it.

A 3" Model 632 in .32 mag. I had a 2". It took me 10 years to get one. The owner of the first one I found would not part with it. I bought the second, ANIB with box and paper. Smith & Wesson tells me that there were only 440 made.

Then I found a 3" nickel Bodyguard!
