What's your WOW! 9mm? (Or .38 special)?

My WOW 9mm will be first up, and is a very nicely refinished Broomhandle Red 9. Although neither the grips or finish are original, all of the parts are, including the 1000 meter rear sight.

As for a WOW 38 Special? How about a Colt National Match 38 Mid-Range? This one came with the original box, docs, and extra mag. The Colt NM .38 was the answer to Smith's outstanding Model 52, but fell to the wayside of Bullseye history.

I think I'll be holding on to these for a long, long time...

Tom

Perhaps a beautiful Korth revolver. Offense to none here, but Korth are the apex of design and construction of revolvers.

GS

The only Korth revolvers in .38 Special are the 20 series police revolvers, they are far from the pinnacle of design!

The Combat models are a quite a bit nicer.

I have a very nice 10-8 .38 spl that shoots straight and tight. I bought it used in 1998 for $250. Will never sell it. My .22 Masterpiece will die in my hands with me. I got one of those 9mm used Berettas from Italy Police Dept. It has definite wear but shoots so smooth I'll have to trade it for a new exceptional gun. I can drop it or whatever; I don't care, as long as I don't break it. It seems bullet proof and shoots tight groups...Just example of 3. Go Steelers!

WCCPHD, Those white grips make that a beautiful gun! I don't mean to insult or kiss butt, but what is their composition? And where can I get a set? They are beautiful! Any info is appreciated. I may have a pistol or wheel gun or both that "want" to wear that material! Thank you. Jeff

The P210-6, it is special.

OK, Andy, its a nice photo and a nice gun. Where are the extra mags and the
22 caliber kit and the .30 cal barrel? :) :) Yep, I'm picking on you. Its not fair, I know.

There was a time when I actually owned 7 P210s. Then I promptly dumped 5 of them, only keeping 2. Now I'm back to wishing I'd kept one of the -6 guns, even if it was made in Germany.

So the thread is supposed to be about revolvers. But I'd really like a -1 gun, the kind made in Switzerland. :D Or is it Swisserland :). You know, the kind that is well fitted, not the machine fitted one from Germany.

No problem. I have only one 9mm revolver of kinds, it is a 6" Korth Sport with a 9mm conversion cylinder but I rarely ever shoot it in 9mm and so I rather posted what I consider one of the best full sized pistols ever made; the Swiss P210.

The other P210, a -4, was gifted to my oldest son when he entered med school but it is still in the family. I have a dozen or so original P210 magazines that I bought over the years but they are hidden in the safes somewhere:). I got rid of my KPS rimfire conversion that was more accurate than the original Swiss conversion and replaced it with the superior Hämmerli 212.

rburg,

the P210-6'es were all made in Switzerland but often marked Tiengen, since Hämmerli in Tiengen was the importer for Germany.

Since Redcoat had mentioned the SIG P210 and Walther P88, I can really recommend the P210 over the P88. I have both and while the P88 is a nice and accurate pistol, the P210 is in a different league.

When it comes to .38 revolvers - and not .357 Magnum revolvers - I love a simple old surplus S&W M10 with Nills.

This is the S&W forum, how about a nice 9mm S&W:

SW5906A.jpg

This is my 5906 with a 5" slide. I believe the slide was from an overrun of Super 9 slides. I also added a mag well, combat mag release, night sights and Hogue grip.

And for the German fans, here are my Walther P88s (the full size ones):

The P88 is a really nice gun as long as you have medium large hands.

Very curious about the 5906 with 5" top end. Did you get it new, and in that configuration? What else do you know about it?

No - it was a plain Jane 5906 that I upgraded. I bought the slide with barrel from a fellow forum member maybe 10-15 years ago when he advertised a few in the WTS forum. I had to add the firing pin and safety from spare parts.

The mag well and combat mag release came directly from S&W. The mag well was originally taller, but I filed it down to the current contour. I had to have the frame milled to accept the mag well.

Night sights are Meprolights.

I was trying to duplicate my Tactical .40, but in 9mm. This is my Tactical .40:

The Tactical .40 has different contoured blue slide and a Briley bushing which I could not duplicate on my 9mm.

Not many that are untouchable for the right trade. Probably two that I'd not trade would be my S&W Model of 1950 and my Dan Wesson Heritage 1911 simply because they'd be VERY hard to replace in Kalifornistan.

For a .38/.357... my 4" 686 no dash would be very hard to let go...

I've given this some thought. I've been through the preference discovery "buy/sell/trade to try out" phase of firearms enthusiasm. I had a penchant for 9mm semi-auto, so I've owned a few. I'm not a collector. I shoot what I own. Because of this, I tend to prefer those firearms for which I can easily source spare parts. For me, the "WOW!" firearms are more than just tools. There is that intangible extra that makes them "WOW!". I'm lucky to own three 9mm's that are on my list.

Range Officer 1911 9mm.

To balance out the part of me that screams that all 1911's should be .45 ACP just as JMB designed them to be, I have a Hi-Power MKIII.

CZ 75B. This one happens to be a high polish.

Until recently, my preferences haven't been revolvers. The one .38 revolver that served as the seed of my current revolver enthusiasm is this S&W Model 10. It isn't pretty. It definitely isn't cosmetically perfect. It is mechanically sound given that it's from 1951-ish.

I am getting old and thinning the herd as nobody in my family has a passion for firearms but they do understand revolvers. I am a RSO and instructor so a gun is on my hip all day. I have narrowed it down to keeping my old W. German Sig P226 and its cousin the Sig M11A1. In my opinion, Sigs are overbuilt bricks but everyone I hand them to shoots them well and their durability cannot be denied.
As for revolvers I have more than I need so sometime this year an older Mod 60 2" and a 640 2" will go still leaving me with a stash of various snubbies to keep me occupied.
I sincerely hope my heirs will keep my 586L comp and my 686+ both with 3" barrels as these guns are smooth, accurate at 75', and having 7 rounds makes them a formidable home defense firearm.
Oh, and then there is............

I would trade to get a Nighthawk Custom Browning High Power...

Indeed, that's a very nice gun. And I could even use it as duty gun. Just a bit too heavy on my wallet right now though... :(

Another "want" on the list is a Devel and ASP. But those would be safe queens.
