When did you quit deal finding and simply buy?

I've seen the old Labor Day $299 price from Palmetto. And currently there are some $329 to $379 15-22 out there before factoring shipping and/or local FFL.

At what price point did you have paralysis by analysis, and simply just bought the great firearm instead of waiting and searching for the ultimate deal of the century, ha.

I'd buy local but it's about 20% more than the reputable sellers.

When I found exactly what I wanted.:D

It's fun to get a "good deal" on something. But when I see a gun that I really want it's a done deal. When I first saw the 15-22 in a magazine I went to the LGS and bought it. Done. The 15-22 was $500 when first introduced, and they didn't even make a threaded barrel version. That was another $50 to get it done.

In the black rifle quad rail game, the cost of the rifle is typically about nil compared to what you can hang on the dang thing and shooting costs.

Anyone care to tally what is on this rifle plus over 40k rounds shot thru it?

Agonizing over saving a $100 on purchase price?
Be prepared for a wallet-emptying experience with a 15-22. Take a look in the Picture thread...

Oh, and see that rubber strap around the magazine? That's to remind me of all the money I spent on LaRue index clips and Magpul XTM and UTG rail covers that are in the gun parts closet along with countless dollars of other stuff I'm saving for nothing. Polymer plinking... it's not a money saving hobby.:D

Being able to hold in hand prior to purchase is a plus in addition to having a local that may feel obligated to assist with a future problem. What is the value difference when you compare FFL fees and shipping charges? There is about 20% mark up from dealer to retail and about 20% from jobber to dealer. Not much there when the costs of running a business are factored in. Is saving maybe a few bucks that important?

Best local is $399 - $439 plus 6% tax. The $399 plus tax is about $424. Obviously tack on about $40 for the higher end.

Best I can find online is $339 - $379 plus free shipping and the associated $10 FFL.

My first-world "problem" is questioning the wait for a $299 or just go for the $339-$370 or wait for used locally. Just rambling and adding to the forum on a slow day at work. :)

When I found a plain barrel 15-22 in stock, it was at Walmart! The price... $439 OTD. I was thrilled b/c at that time any LGS that had a 15-22 priced them at about $480 plus tax. Ordering was no help b/c after you figured in the S/H and FFL transfer fee, you were still at about the same money as they were charging at any of the LGS's. Later I traded that plain barreled 15-22 to a LGS for one w/ the flash hider... for $20 cash. I figured that was cool as I still had only $459 in the rifle... which was a good bit less than the LGS wanted for the rifles that were new in the rack. Sometimes... things just work out!

Didn't know Walmart sold the 15-22. They just had 20% off firearms the past weekend. Dang it!

edit: Just called. They have unthreaded barrel in stock at $449 and the 20% coupon would've (coulda woulda shoulda) made it $380 out the door. Sigh.

Probably after I caught that leprechaun and took his pot of gold. I think that's about when.

Kreativecid. That would be yesterday! I was too late on the Palmetto deal, waited a bit, looked around and just decided to buy one. Who knows, if we see another $299 deal I might be tempted to buy another one.

Probably close to half the stuff I have was not necessarily something I set out to find but I could't pass up the deal. Example, I went to the store a couple years ago to buy my first handgun based on the ad price for one firearm but wasn't overly impressed by it in person - and they had a different one on sale at a price I have only once seen since (at the same place a year later).
Or in one case I knew I wanted a 1911 at some point but wasn't seriously looking when a sale price popped up on a nice one so I got it.

I just got mine for $359.99 and free shipping, $20 FFL, $30.15 TAXES and for $410.15 it is all mine ! :D

Actually I have a track record of believing I have found the deal when I buy. I always....always find a better deal 1-2 weeks after I buy. Not just with guns but with EVERYTHING!! Lol. My wife says she doesn't understand why I still look after I buy because I just get T'd off.

I'm methodical and boring...

When I decide I "need" something, I do some research and find out if it is all it should be in the first place. When that is decided, I then decide exactly what and how I want it and the price I'm willing to pay. Then, comes the waiting. FYI----Took me 17 years to get the perfect Belgium Browning A5 Magnum 12 ga made in my birth year. (1968) I had to have it as new for $500.00 or less. I broke my own rule and gave $506.00 for it. I also got the remainder of the original box of shells that was purchased with the A5(22 shot shells left in the box). As new with the shells warranted the extra $6. The nicer ones around the LGS were bringing $800-$1000. I bid the same on E-bay. I figure my top total price with shipping and put in the bid. I get it or I don't. I prefer not to haggle as I know what is fair market value for the seller and the buyer.

I'm part of the impulse crowd:

Little over 4 years ago I stopped by my LGS and notice this weird looking what I thought was an AR15. Grabbed it off the wall and was amazed when I saw it was 22lr only.

Looked at the store owner, (who know my buying habits well) and $500 later I was the proud owner of my "1st" 15-22. (No regrets what I paid for it) Especially when I think about the amount of money that has squirted out the business end since I bought it.

Didn't know I needed one at the time, but darn glad I walked out with it.

I wish.....

That I could get one for $500 never mind $389 :(

Over here in the UK, after I go through the VERY slow process of applying for permission to buy the thing and waiting for the 3 months it takes for that,

I then have the pleasure, nay, the honour of paying £750 for the rifle (after a 3 hour drive) to the nearest dealer who stocks it. in US money that's around the $1250 mark that's not including my time , travel, sound moderator and ACOG purchased on the day. ;)

Not to mention the mortgage I took for all the lovely little go faster stripes and extra mags that really make it a pleasure to have one of these.

I really wouldnt like to add up the total dollar value spent on this, but I can and will say this....

I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!! :D:D:D:D

Good thing to I guess,

So much fun I can have with this that at the end of the day, the price tag becomes a non issue.

I say IF YOU WANT IT GO GET IT!!!

now to look at moving to US so I can have a "proper" AR

Good thing I don't have any gotta have it guns. If I see something I like and it's a good price I'll buy it. If not then I'm still not missing anything

I took a bit of a hosing on the price when they first hit the shelves, but I don't regret it. Every now and then I find a deal at a Big Box Store that I can't resist, but generally, I buy from the same LGS I've been doing business with for 30 years.

Big R in Billings MT and Sheridan WY had about a pallet of them for Black Friday last week. They were the threaded barrel ones selling for $299. At that price I bought one even though I already have one. They also had pallets of Federal Auto Match325round boxes for 19.99,and M&P 15 Sport rifles for $419.
There are deals out there and some may be worth the wait.

If I decide on a product I determine a reasonable price and when available I make the purchase. Not scientific and most woman shoppers would be agast at my simple method but when I want the item I want it now. When I read threads with guys searching for days, weeks or months to find "the deal" I chuckle and when their procrastination causes a missed purchase I laugh at their misfortune ( just as they laughingly tell me I paid too much). I remember my buddy for example telling me I was paying too much during the week for bricks of .22 ( if I remember correctly they were $9.99 for Federal-10 fifty round boxes) as they would be on sale soon. I have stacks of .22 where he is crying that he missed the sales. During the first few months of the latest "insanity" he paid over six hundred for a 15-22 that he had shopped for eariler but did not buy. Not that I would gloat over his misfortune but I had to show him the latest 15-22 I bought from PSA last month for $299. My original FDE 15-22 cost me $325 and same neighbor scoffed at my paying that much! :-)
