I've recently been afflicted with a sickness. I've purchased 5 S&W revolvers in two months. It seems my case is severe as I'm attracted to the higher dollar models with short barrels and combat grips including a couple Lew Horton exclusives. I own many firearms and tend to buy one or two at most a year.....sometimes less. I've never been this obsessed with owning one of every model and flavor. When does it stop? Is my condition hopeless? They're like puppies.....I want to take them all home with me and love and care for them.

I recently caught the affliction too. I believe it's an acute case of Smithandwessonitas. The compulsion to acquire every Smith and Wesson regardless of need it or financial ability. I think we need the Centers for Disease Control look into this.

I don't know exactly when (if ever) it stops, but I know one thing for sure. As long as you keep hanging around here it will NEVER stop. There are just too many neat guns posted and too many enablers here ready and waiting to tell you "go for it" every time you post questions about a new potential acquisition you are considering... :D

You're in trouble now. As others have said, there is no known cure. I'm not sure what it is with the short barreled combat gripped guns. Once they get hold of you it is all over. Your checkbook will never be the same. I feel your pain and elation, as I too, have been bitten by the bug. Coming up on two years in October, fifty so far and no end in sight. In accordance with the rules, a few pics or it didn't happen.

Good luck on your quest, there are quite a few of us that think it is a worthy one. Best regards, Bob.

It never really stops. The nature of this virus is such that by the the time you die you have infected children, family members and friends to the extent that your collection is cherry picked before it's sold to the unwashed masses and the life cycle of the smith hoarding begins anew. My wife calls it "the non-black gun plague"

Buying fine firearms is as good a way to fund your retirement, or when you pass in lieu of life insurance, as there is. Firearms appreciate as well as gold or silver if you are careful about which ones you pick. I say as long as the money holds out, and you have a quality vault to store them in, go for it. There is a sign in a high quality gift shop I go to in Topeka, KS that reads "Need has nothing to do with it". I think they have it right on.

OH, and you haven't discovered Pre-War models yet? You will need to increase the limits on your credit cards, buy a bigger safe, lay in a supply of Renaissance Wax and increase the gun clause on your homeowners insurance. Welcome to the fold, we know your pain.

Exactly^^^^^^

In fact, there are four clearly identifiable stages of this disease.

Right now 241 poor souls are showing symptoms and maybe self-diagnosed.

123 have sought professional help, and are in support groups.

84 are taking daily medication and are contemplating SWCA membership.

And, if you are one of 15 posting and viewing the antique section all hope is lost!

Well, I have two, a .38 and a.45 and I don't feel inclined to buy any more. Love the two I do have though.

It stops when....

You no longer visit gun forums with the enablers (who disguise themselves as a support group)
No more gun shows.
No more gun periodicals.
No more gun-auction sites.
No more gun shops/outdoor stores (Cabelas, GM, heck even Dicks)

If that's not enough... therapy.

Sounds kind of boring... why do you want to stop? What would you do with that 15-20 extra hours of freetime every week...you'll just need another hobby.
