When does it stop?

Well I just got home from picking up my latest acquisition. I won an auction on a Model 29-3 3" Lew Horton model with an ALB prefix. I haven't put it down since walking in the house. It was a long wait for payment to clear and ship to my LGS. Unfortunately several of the guys at the gun store also have the disease. I'm picking up another 686-3 2.5" with combats later this week. I told myself "no more" until next year.

Seriously, I think you need an intervention. It won't be easy, but it's your best chance of breaking the spell that you have fallen under. We are here for you when you feel weak and need support (support =tell us where the good deal is and we will buy it before you do!!) Thats the best idea I can come up with in the moment

Well I'm currently winning two auctions. A part of me wants to be outbid so the madness will stop. Fortunately bow season is fast approaching so I can focus on something else for a few months. I've already sold three guns to help finance some recent purchases. It helped ease some of the pain but I paid "all the money" on the recent examples I've acquired. Let's hope they continue to appreciate at the pace they have been on the last several years.

You can NEVER have too many guns!

I've heard many a guy say; I can't buy that, my wife will kill me. I have figured it out...If you have a lot of guns it's easy to sneak one in, and even if the boss lady says " you didn;t buy another gun now did ya?" No honey, I've had this for a long time and just haven't had it out for some time..that's why you think it;s new... I thought I'd just take it out clean it and maybe take it to the range and see if it still works! And ALWAYS bring your new gun home in your oldest, ugliest gun case you can find. And when all else fails...use your teenagers' favorite line: IT'S NOT MINE I'M JUST HOLDING IT FOR A FRIEND ! :
First guy to run out of ammo loses!!

Yep, all those work. i have used every one of those lines and snuck guns into my own house. I even carry the nastiest pistol rug and rifle case you have ever seen in my truck so my wife is used to seeing it lay around. Dont they say that addicts go to great lengths to hide their addiction? Now I just need to figure out how to get another safe moved in without her finding out and I'm set up for at least another 10 years if I can keep dodging the intervention.

I just keep it in the car for a couple of days until she has to go grocery shopping or run some errands. While she's gone I bring it into the house and put it in the safe. Once it's in the gun safe then I'm safe too. She never even looks in there ;)

You're in trouble now. As others have said, there is no known cure. I'm not sure what it is with the short barreled combat gripped guns. Once they get hold of you it is all over. Your checkbook will never be the same. I feel your pain and elation, as I too, have been bitten by the bug. Coming up on two years in October, fifty so far and no end in sight. In accordance with the rules, a few pics or it didn't happen.

Good luck on your quest, there are quite a few of us that think it is a worthy one. Best regards, Bob.

Are the pistols in picture #2 loaded? I would never display loaded pistols.

"When does it stop?"

For some, it involves moving on to other interests - but it's difficult to find a hobby that is enjoyable and in which you don't lose money (if you are careful). For others, it is the absence of breathing and a heartbeat...;).

No, they are NOT loaded. I absolutely agree, I would NEVER display a loaded pistol. Regards, Bob.

Good but when looking at the picture my eyes must be deceiving me or you might have spent cartridges in the cylinders but I'm glad they are not loaded!

Good news is it's seldom fatal, unless you have taught your wife to shoot and at some point she snaps and decides to use her skill set on you....

You can run out of room, money, or get all the ones you want.

I'm getting near the latter (or at least that's what I tell myself).

A wise man once told me " You might think you have enough guns, until the Zombies start coming"

When does it stop?

NEVER!

Once you get the J, K, L, and the worst: N-Frame-itis, you are done for friend. Next will come the grip-aholic (both original factory and custom) then your in for it for holsters, correct boxes, and tools. I have tried to stay away, I have tried and failed. I have come to grips with my addiction, pun intended!

This will go on and on and on... then you'll end up like many of us, looking for our next "fix" at pawn shops and garage sales. :D

You may as well jump on in to the deep end, the water is good!

Best,

Michael

I don't smoke, drink, chase women, or beat my wife.

Well, not that can be proven, anyway[emoji6]

I figure there's worse vices.

There is no cure. I have bought guns to fill perceived needs. I have bought some simply out of want. I have bought others because I had plentiful brass in that particular caliber. A few because I already had a nice set of grips or holster to fill. At least one or two because I already had the reloading dies on hand. Now I only buy guns that are in their original factory configuration with the box, and that has proven to be more expensive but focused.

I don't know exactly when (if ever) it stops, but I know one thing for sure. As long as you keep hanging around here it will NEVER stop. There are just too many neat guns posted and too many enablers here ready and waiting to tell you "go for it" every time you post questions about a new potential acquisition you are considering... :D

Yep, don't expect any 12-step support group here.

Well said. I am in if ever one of "those" deals ya'll seem to find EVER comes to fruition! I deserve one special deal IMO...just one God.

Well, I have two, a .38 and a.45 and I don't feel inclined to buy any more. Love the two I do have though.

Obviously this gentleman is in denial!!!, keep coming back we can help

Dag nabbit.

There will be no return to sanity for me then.
I am guilty of that at least 2 times.
Twig.

Nevermind.....
Make that 3 times...
I also helped a guy sell one of his guns without stocks so I could buy them from him. So kinda 4 times.
Twig.

Never, it never stops....and do you really want it to ?

I told my wife, when I pass , put all my S&W's and my AMT Hardballer in the box with me....I'm taking them with me. I just know God has a shooting range in heaven for us and he will have unlimited powders for reloading and all the 22 LR's we can shoot....
Heaven's going to be nice !
Gary

At least it's not shoes. Or handbags. Would be tough for a guy to explain.

Ok. Not impossible, but pretty tough.

There IS a certain connection between collecting S&W's (and others) and collecting leather items like holsters. I have a few favorite model Bianchi holsters that are no longer made that I cruise ebay and gunshows to find.

I searched the four corners of the earth to find 2 Australian Colonial Police New Model 3 cross-flapped revolver holsters and 3 removable stock scabbards/holsters).

Don't tell me there is one guy out there that doesn't own a dozen or so holsters, few leather jackets and at least 5 pairs of shoes / boots.

Yes, this leather collecting includes shoes, field boots, work shoes, work boots, water proof and steel toes, insulated and un-insulated, too, as well a half dozen leather jackets. Also, the pride in preserving these leather clothing items.
