... by golly, they build a holster! This one came with a Sig Sauer P6 (our civilian version is the 225) I bought when those flooded in a few years ago. It weighs 15.1 ounces.

those p6's are among my favorites. a contact of mine in bavaria told me that you could guestimate how many rounds they had fired. 50rounds a year from manufacturing date to date of import. average was about 50rounds per year. All were nrm, north westphalia, i was gonna get him to look up where assigned by serial number but never did. the holster was designed to prevent quick draw, and of course that swivel is detachable. he said they weren't expected to actually draw the weapon, but to call their version of swat if gunplay was in the works. I did manage to get a left handed holster like that, and a left handed shoulder holster. at the time of import, most that i saw came with one of those holsters. On one, i did remove the springs which are heavy for trigger, and replaced with the 225 springs, made for a lighter trigger pull. having the chance at the time to paw through a stack of them u p to knee high, there were some that other than being test fired, hadn't been used. some had the german manual, and test target in the box. for about 250 dollars a piece at the time, heck of a deal for a sig sauer

When I shot the first P6 I bought, I liked it so much I drove back to the LGS to buy a second one; as you say, the price was great.

They had a box o' holsters for them so for the second one I chose a shoulder holster, which I'm sure is around here somewhere.

I found the holster pictured while looking for something else, which seems to be the story of my pack rat life.

Europe is not heavily into planned periodic replacement. They are more likely to build to last. I had colleagues at my last employer who had emigrated from Europe and they were shocked at the "flimsy nature" of newly built homes.

I went back more than one time. the nrw designation was good for me having had family in that area of germany since around 800A.D. the only negative on the p6 was the thin coating/bluing, it wears quick. I finally went back for the last one to find one with some signs of wear so i didn't feel so bad shooting it. My daughter at the time was comfortable hitting 12guage hulls out to 15yards with one of them, they are good shooters. Hey, even the army is shooting a sig these days.

The leather is on the thicker side but overall it's really no more overbuilt than many common American police rigs from yesteryear. Plenty of old swivel holsters, among other types, from back in the day are quite massive and easily weigh near or even over a pound.

German Engineers are some of the worlds finest - however sometimes they just over-engineer a product. Anyone who has owned a Mercedes or BMW long term would understand what I mean.
