When Is Enough, Enough?

They've gotten all.....

It doesn't worry me none because I've given them all I am going to this year. Beg or no beg. I sure would like to see some positive media presence. I realize Lobbying is expensive but it seems changing people's opinions would be worth at least as much.

I joined thru this site back in March to help the NRA stand up to the anti gun bullies. Since then I have received several calls begging for more money and membership renewal notices every week. Makes me almost regret joining because it is close to harassment. Here is the kicker, I selected the free NRA bag which after 8 weeks has not come. I then received my new member package and I had to fill out a postcard, again requesting the bag. I was going to throw it out as they suggested to save them money but thought no, that was part of the deal. They were quick to charge my credit card. Leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I will think long and hard when membership renewal time arrives.
phew! been wanting to get that off my chest for awhile....

It's really simple, give $ when you can and want to and don't when you can't. If it really gets your britches in a wad to be solicited, get off their contact list.
I would at least advise people to join the NRA though. That costs about 9 1/2 pennies a day. Their power lies in the millions of members who vote. That's what gets a politicians attention!

Okay, okay. I know there are stock answers that are always given about expense`s of the gun battle. I believe for a fact much of it is rhetoric reflex programmed thinking people react to. Ya gotta use money to fight for us. BS!!! Its in all religions too. Its in politics big time. Each side of every issue everywhere thinks its all about who has the most money to win, keep our guns, save our souls, have our candidate win, and if we dont give, we are a unpatriotic heathen. Do I really, really, think I want my candidate to win or my soul is saved only because I and others of my thinking won based on money? I dont get off walking around, thumping my chest how patriotic I am because I put my money where my mouth is. I dont believe in buying votes OR WINNING on money merits that bought my candidates office. Whatever wins out shouldnt win because of money. It should and will win because its just right. If my cause dont win, I make up my own rules, walk a low profile and live by my own integrity that I choose. I will fight with argument, fists or as a last resort with my illegal gun. You wont see me hiding in a trench throwing bags of money at my enemy to keep them at bay. I dont want to "win" that way.

It would be nice to live if a world where what is right wins but we live in a world where might makes right and where money corrupts so how do you combat that?

I am still a member but dont approve of their begging tactics and sort of shell game always wanting to re up your membership early. It long ago got to the point that I never really know just when my subscription really expires!

My gun club requires 100% NRA membership. Green Valley Rifle & Pistol here in Columbia, MO Home of the Bianchi Cup (which is a NRA event I might add). They had a lifetime offer for $300 and I did it a while back and several of my fiends did also. I figure I will break even for the amount of shooting at my club before I die. I do receive calls from the NRA asking for more money. I politely decline. I don't like their begging or some of their politics but they are the best bang for my gun dollar. When people start bitching to me about the current liberal anti-gun nuts (I am known as a friendly gun guy, not a crazy) I ask them if they are a NRA member. If no then I offer them a question, "Will you let me help get you signed up"? I am on a mission.

United we stand divided we fall remember the 1968 Gun Control act and watch out for the future.

Why did you, then? You don't own a trash can? You don't have a telephone to call the "opt out" number several people have provided for you?

I'm tired of beating this dead horse: NRA is the biggest and best organization we have defending our rights. They are a single-issue pressure group. You know that every dollar you send them is going for that purpose. They are the 800 pound gorilla. When politicians talk about the "e-vile gun lobby," they aren't talking about GOA or any other organization, they are talking about NRA.

With the Supreme Court ruling in Citizens United vs. FEC, NRA can buy ads in Georgia exposing the anti-gun sentiment of one of our Senate candidates. NRA can target particular races where a liberal might be defeated, or where there is an open seat, and a conservative might be in need of a little help. It takes money, though.

I'll stop before I get too political, but this is 2nd amendment stuff, and I have called no names, just given an example.;)

I would like to say that one of the reasons I consider this particular forum as my main internet home is because of the strong support of NRA by the head Honchos and most of the membership.

Well said.

Shame on you.

There is absolutely nothing new about firearms legislation. I have a copy of the 1940 Stoeger's catalog and handbook and right inside the inside cover is a notice NEW FEDERAL FIREARMS ACT. On July 30th 1938 the new FFA became effective designed to protect the law abiding citizen and prevent the circumvention of state firearms laws by interstate shipment, and to insure that firearms do not come into the possession of those who might make unlawful use of them.
Its just the same old tired argument with a new set of mugs behind the camera...nothing new.

When I gave for the life time membership I got nothing other than satisfaction. No bags, trinkets, etc. I did receive a NRA hat the first year that I joined. That is the hat I wear to all the shooting events that I participate in. I sure like my IDPA events at my local club. Did I mention that that I like NRA?

I joined, and recently paid the boost for a three year renewal, much too early. I got a call about donations. I explained that I am a stage 4 cancer patient, and have a life expectancy of less than a year, so I was already betting against the system. The young lady excused herself to hold for a minute or two, and returned to explain that I would not be bothered again.

I can put the paper mail in the recycle bin with all the rest.

You can't really imagine how happy I would be to be throwing that **** away in three years.

I just dont play their game. 73 years old, never been to jail, the Lord has protected me more times than I can begin to count. While things arent all solved in my life I dont and wont live in fear. I am a born skeptic meaning I dont fall for a lot of retoric talk that most others seem to believe without questioning. I probley have been a NRA member longer than many here are old. I will continue to pay my dues, but I also will point out their failings when bugged about something. Come to think about it I think they owe me a couple of caps and bags I never received either. I hate kool ade.

Didn't think I'd get 50 responses to my post. Obviously, we have people on both sides, those who don't mind being asked for money almost every day and those who do. I'll always be for the NRA and I'll always belong but as I originally said, enough is enough. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. I'm sure you will stick to yours also and you should. That's another of your rights and it's doesn't cost a cent.

Q: How can I reduce the amount of mail I receive from the NRA?
A: Simply email us at [email protected] or dial 800-NRA-3888 and request to be placed on the "Do Not Promote" list. This will significantly reduce the amount of mail you receive without affecting important mailings, magazine service, or your membership renewal.

The guy appearing on Meet The Press this morning has pledged $50 million to anti-gun campaigns and propaganda (unsure over what period). $50 million! Under his anti-gun umbrella group, Every Town for Gun Safety, which includes Mayors Against Illegal Guns and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, they already claim to have 1.5 million members with a goal for 2.5 million this year. Who knows how much money and anti-gun propagandist volunteers are coming in there?

There is a bill in the House to restart funding the CDC $10 million per year for anti-gun propaganda disguised as "research".

Hollywood is unrelenting with anti-gun propaganda. Harvey Weinstein said he's making an anti-gun movie that is going to make the National Rifle Association "wish they weren't alive."

An NRA fundraising envelope in the mail sure sounds a lot better to me than a letter from the government advising the deadline to register all my guns has passed and I must now dispose of them.

I have a different approach

Disclosure I have been a life member for over 45 years. I have sent money at many different times and will continue to WHEN I WANT TO. Right now in my state the NRA is fighting to lessen the effects of the Safe Act. I think we will get some relief but most of that feel good BS is here to stay.

What my approach is I opted out of mailers and nuisance phone calls long ago. When I do send money I do it sneakily by PMO so they do not put me back on the call/send mail list. That happened a few times so now I stay in the background. WORKS FOR ME!
