When Is Enough, Enough?

I started not to beat this dead horse anymore because it's been beat to death in the past. But----I just received a letter from the NRA Political Victory Fund wanting a $19 per month donation for the months of June, July and August. It came complete with three separate envelopes and three separate vouchers (if you will) or you could just send $57 all at one time.

Now, I don't think there is a single person who frequents this forum that is not 100% in favor or 2nd Amendment rights but, doggone, it seems that I get a letter or a phone call from the NRA at least once a week wanting more $$$$. Is anyone else troubled by this constant barrage besides me?

It expires about 6 months before you stop receiving the 1911 monthly... umm... I mean "American Rifleman."

Reupped a couple months ago when I bought a new pistol. Recently got my first magazine and a Chinese NRA hat with American flag on the back.

Should start receiving my renewal notices pretty soon....

That needs a triple "like". I have saw many restrictions placed on gun ownership in my life and I am convinced that if it wasn't for the NRA there would not be any legal way for the public to own guns in this country. Larry

Seriously dude, give them a call and ask to be put on the do not call, do not mail list! It is not that hard. I got my wife a Life Membership a couple of years ago and asked them to put her on the do not contact list. It works, she has received exactly one mailing in two years. It was for NRA endorsed life insurance.

I am very much for the NRA and won't cease being a member but the constant begging does get a little old. Maybe they don't ever have enough money to wage the fight that they feel is necessary but they surely do beg a lot. I continue to believe it is a good organization however.

I renew my NRA membership every year, but when I get the
"beggin letters", I just toss them. I gave a lot of money to them
in 1994 to fight the Clinton gun ban legislation. If the SHTF
on gun control legislation, I'll send them some money. Until
then, I need it to pay my bills.

Call them and tell them to stop, they will. If they don't just ignore it. There are harder things in life to ignore than junk mail.

Anybody who quits the NRA because of the junk mail, isn't thinking strait.

They aren't perfect, but they are doing some good. Anybody who owns a gun, and wants to keep it, should be a member. IMHO.

The good thing about this thread is I found out about the NRA no call list. I get tired of the barrage too.

The NRA fights for our side for sure, and I can't see quitting over junk mail if a group is benefiting us as the NRA does, but remember that business-wise the NRA is just another lobbying group with their haand out constantly out, just like the national GOP, the Democratic National Campaign Committee, etc.

Constantly begging for money is just what these groups...ALL of them...do.

Well as long as Bloomberg, weak willed politicans, anti gun folks and others
remain with us then continued support of the NRA is required.

I doubt I'm alone when I say that our dollars aren't going as far as they used to. Food, health insurance, gas and heating oil, clothes, you name it have, all spiked recently. And the true killer college tuition. I'll have 2 in school for the foreseeable future and it scares the bejeebers out of me.

I have always contributed what and when I can to tons of worthy causes. I also haven't hid my feelings of late about helping to fund political candidates and causes on an local, state and federal level. Add to that all of the social, civic and health-related donations and the dollars run short long before the causes do.

I have helped out the NRA in the past, but frankly they have fallen off my list recently. Not because of what they do, but because I don't currently have the where-with-all to contribute to them.

I have told them precisely my situation on 2 occasions and yet I got (and ignored) 9 phone calls from them in the past two weeks. Almost every day when I was on vacation and the last was yesterday. I'm ready to find a way to block their number on my cell phone. And that doesn't take into account their nonstop flow of junk mail. I know where they are and how to cut them a check on my terms.

They aren't alone in their campaign. Almost everyone we have ever donated to bugs us for money. Sadly the NRA is perhaps the worst. I will no longer give out my phone number or address (if possible) when sending anyone money. I remain totally anonymous when I can.

Somewhere on their website is an option to avoid notification of any kind other than a renewal notice. I contacted them and the annoying stuff ended. A much better option than quitting, we don't need that.

I'm not so bothered by it as I just put it with the rest of the junk mail in the shredder. We donate the shredded paper and other paper to our Church's school where they make a few bucks so you might say it goes to a worthy cause.
I do agree it makes it hard to determine when your membership expires though.
